Today we’d like to introduce you to Janice Blackmon.
Janice is an Atlanta native who lived for many years in Sarasota, Florida. She earned a degree in both Occupational Therapy and Music at Manatee Community College in Bradenton, Florida. Her childhood dream and passion was to be a Bridal Consultant, and although her career path initially took her into the banking industry, a brief stint as a Travel Agent and the education industry, she began coordinating weddings as a hobby on the side while living in Sarasota. Through the years that “hobby” naturally grew into her full-time, extremely successful career. Janice has coordinated hundreds of weddings and events. Clients rely on her expertise in social etiquette as well as her innovative ideas, creative design and flawless execution. Her attention to detail and calm demeanor when dealing with stressful situations makes her a valuable asset in coordinating weddings and events. She is considered one of the premier Event Consultants in the Atlanta area by many of the most reputable vendors and venues, landing her on some of the most prestigious preferred vendor lists in the city and beyond. She constantly receives accolades from previous clients stating that without her help, their event would not have been “flawless”. Due to her professionalism and ability to create and execute flawless events creating a stress free environment for her clients, she is highly sought after to assist clients in planning their special event. Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Life is not always an easy road, and being an entrepreneur is no different. The thing that I always try to remember is that I am fortunate to be following my passion and that makes everything worth it. In addition to the aspects of running a business, hiring and training associates, maintaining a competitive edge and continually enhancing the services offered, still do not cover all of the tasks that I handle. It is important to me that my clients receive unparalleled service to plan their event, and since my client base is extensive, time management is important so that each client feels as though they are my only client. This can present issues especially during the high-season months, but I believe my fortitude and passion for producing flawless events enables me to have the energy needed to multi-task.
Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Janice Blackmon Events – what should we know?
Janice Blackmon Events is an award winning event planning company. We specialize in assisting our clients with innovative concepts, creative design and flawless production of the event. Because we know that planning a wedding or any social event can be very stressful, we work in such a way as to provide our clients with the tools and services to allow them to actually enjoy planning their special day. We want to create a one-of-a-kind event for each client by making sure their personality is woven throughout every detail. Because every client is different, we offer a variety of packages that allow the client to determine the level of assistance needed ~ from a Basic Package up to a complete Full Service Package. With all of our packages, we provide comprehensive Check Lists to make sure that all details are handled, we conduct a Final Planning Meeting where all of the details of the day are discussed to their specifications, we also meet with key vendors to discuss the timeline for the day as well as providing confirmation documents to each of the vendors. In order to effectively produce their flawless event, we provide a team of associates on the day of the event to give the client the comfort of knowing that all of the details of the day will be handled in a timely and professional manner – leaving the client and their family the ability to actually be a guest and enjoy the celebration.
My many years of experience with hundreds of weddings and events has given me the ability of being able to handle any situation that could arise. This is of importance to my clients because they can rest assured that their event will be just what they have dreamed of as well as knowing it will be flawless.
Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
Acute attention to detail is a quality and characteristic that is extremely important to my success. Being able to handle multiple situations simultaneously while remaining calm so that my clients never know what “issues” may arise is critical. Being personable and approachable to every person involved with an event is something that I take seriously. I treat every vendor involved as a team member, because after all the end goal for all of us is the same. I believe in the philosophy of treating others as you want to be treated, so creating and maintaining a fun environment where each vendor shines and can perform their respective duties is of importance to me.
I am also extremely particular with the overall look of the event, from linen placement, to place settings to chair positioning at the table. If one thing is out of place, it throws the entire look off and photos of the event prove that. My clients know that they don’t have to worry about anything when I am handling their event – and that’s the whole purpose of having a Planner!
