Meet Jared Croskey of Empower Sports Chiropractic

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jared Croskey

Hi Jared, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I was born and raised in north Georgia in a small town called Blairsville. Growing up, I never knew what I wanted to do but I always had a passion for how the human body moves. This passion lead me into studying athletic training which is commonly confused with personal training. Athletic training is sports medicine, whereas personal training is fitness related. So, from 2016-2018 I studied athletic training at the University of Georgia.

QUICK SIDE STORY During my time at UGA, I met my wife, Abbey. We met at a flag football game where Abbey tagged along with her roommate, Sofia, to watch Sofia’s boyfriend, Shane, play his game. I happened to be on Shane’s team and noticed Abbey. Thankfully, she was single at this time and Shane helped set us up on a date. Here we are years later, the four of use are still great friends, and Sofia actually works with me treating patients as a physical therapist.

During my time at UGA, I realized that athletic training was a ton of work when the team was in-season. I loved working with athletes, but the time commitment made me nervous when looking at my life down the road. I started looking at adjacent career opportunities and was at a crossroads between physical therapy and chiropractic. After shadowing both professions, I elected to go to Life University and become a chiropractor. This was 100% the correct option. Initially, I had a hard time at Life University because it is quite a holistic college and I had a hard time understanding their beliefs for treating patients with my sports medicine background. Eventually, I found students that had a similar mindset to myself and graduated Life in 2021. After my graduation, my first job was not as a chiropractor. It takes around 2 months for the state of Georgia’s licensing division to process new chiropractic licenses. So during that time, I worked as a server. I continued to work as a server even after I got my chiropractic license because, building a practice takes a long time. While I was a server, I worked as an associate chiropractor in Alpharetta during the day and took food orders at night. For two years straight, I worked every single day of the week to support myself and my wife, while building a practice. During this time, I eventually left serving and took on another job at a high volume chiropractic clinic in Atlanta, but still working everyday.

This moves us up to June of 2023 when I decided to open up my own chiropractic practice in Cumming called Empower Sports Chiropractic. I opened up with a gym that was already established in the community, Horsepower Fitness. Remember, my passion was human body movement and what better place to have a chiropractor with this mindset than with a gym. Since 2023, Horsepower Fitness has added a second location in Crabapple where my second practice location is at. My team has also grown from just me to Sofia (physical therapist), Abbey (not my wife, but other physical therapist), and Nicholas (massage therapist). Our goal with Empower Sports Chiropractic is provide out community with the ability to move confidently.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I don’t think anyone that owns a business would say the road is very smooth. Some of the struggles have been, and still are:
– Am I doing the right thing by having my own business and not working for someone else?
– Will I make enough money to support my family?
– How long do I handle an increase in workload with administrative tasks before having someone else manage them?

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
Empower Sports Chiropractic is a multidisciplinary clinic that specialized in chiropractic, physical therapy and massage therapy. We are different because all of our treatment sessions are one-on-one, and tend to be longer sessions. We do this because we value patient-specific treatments. This tailored approach limits the amount of patients we can see, however, our results speak for themselves.

We tend to classify the clinic as a boutique, clinic/gym hybrid because of our association with Horsepower Fitness. Most of our clients are young, to middle-aged and active. We pride ourselves on keeping our patients active with modifications to activity, rather than complete rest.

The crisis has affected us all in different ways. How has it affected you and any important lessons or epiphanies you can share with us?
I was not in practice at the time but we keep our equipment super clean!
