Today we’d like to introduce you to Jarvis Mays.
Jarvis, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I have been singing my entire life. I started singing in church with my twin brother and as we became adults, I decided to choose R&B while he continued with Gospel. Singing has been part of our family lifeline. With all of that being said, this was the beginning of “The Amaysing Twins”. We were approached to do a reality show and after months of meetings and discussions, we decided to move forward with the show. We are now filming our second season!!
Has it been a smooth road?
Absolutely not! There were many naysayers who didn’t think it was possible for us to do a show and there were others who didn’t think I could make the transition from Gospel to R&B, but of course we continue to prove them wrong. Our show is successful and our music has been as well.
Can you give our readers some background on your music?
In regards to my music, I started my own label (jmaysmusic). I decided I was not going to wait around for an opportunity. I would create my own entity with my own money and hard work. Eventually, I plan to buy a studio and assist other new and upcoming artists, but currently I am focused on my success and independence. I am most proud of the path that I have taken in this business. I paid for it all myself and I owe no one. It’s all mine. As it relates to our show, we basically footed a lot of the cost our first season as well, but now since we are with MoldingHeartz and ICtelevision network, we do not have to do that anymore. The network has it covered.
Is our city a good place to do what you do?
Atlanta is a great place to work and live. I have been here almost 16 years. I’ve been in corporate for 15 years and entertainment for about six years. If someone asked me about moving to Atlanta, I would say come on, however you better plan to hustle and get in the mix if you want to be recognized and successful. It’s not easy, but it possible because there is plenty of opportunity here. I’ve been successful.
