Today we’d like to introduce you to Jasamine Hill.
Jasamine, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
After graduate school, I secured a dream job for me within the front office of a professional basketball team in their Inside Sales Program. After four months, I began to dread the occupation and career path that I thought I would love for the rest of my life. My manager was inquiring which sales team I was interested in pursuing (at the end of your term you were then promoted to various sales department as an Account Executive). And 30 days after sharing with him my desire to possibly explore other departments with the organization; I was fired.
I was unemployed for three months which felt like years. Job rejection after job rejection. I was at my lowest. Most days I sat in my dark apartment, hiding from the world because I didn’t want to explain or face the fact that I was fired. I was a boss chick, an example of hustle and success; what would others think about me if they knew the truth.
I wasn’t balling and needed a job desperately and started to work for a mortgage company. After a couple of months, I was bored out of my mind. I knew that if I didn’t find what my purpose that I was stay in the cycle of “get a job, hate the job, look for new job.” I started to read tons of books it help me realized that I always wanted to encourage and inspire people; I came across the profession of a Life Coach and was intrigued. This is what I wanted to do! I started to write the advice that I was giving friends and everyone suggested I start a blog. However, I felt stuck because I had two degrees in sport management and felt like I needed to pursue that track. And what would people think about me?
My older co-workers would always talk about how they wanted to pursue certain careers but always had a reason why they would. And after walking to my desk and seeing someone display their 30 years of Service plaque it hit me. That I was in charge of my destiny!
October 2015, I launched The Fear Hurdler!
In 2016, I received my coaching certification and we transformed from a blog into a business. Since then, I have coaches clients to start businesses, blogs, and brands; hosted in-person workshops, and went on a book tour for my book “The Roller Coaster Effect.”
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It hasn’t always been smooth sailing. Everything in life has its ups and downs it is to be expected. I think the first struggle that I experienced was feeling that I was not good enough, not getting the viewership or that hits when I first started. It really discouraged me and I was so close to giving up at the beginning because of it.
We live in this social media society it is easy to see other people experiencing success and getting down on yourself when it’s not happening for you. I think one thing that has helped has been to in those moments to stay focused on what I am trying to accomplish and people that I am impacting versus getting caught up in what everybody else is doing.
Please tell us about Fear Hurdler.
The Fear Hurdler teaches women how to overcome self-doubt and fear, to launch their business or brand. We complete this through workshops (in person and online), books, and a new coaching program that will be launching the end of September.
What’s sets us apart is how we intertwine media and educational techniques to develop an impactful and transformational moments for our clients and audience. I don’t think that I have saw anyone infuse humor, faith, and personal development like we have in our video series “Fearless Tip of the Week,” “Hey Sis” and “If Scripture was in the Urban Dictionary.”
Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
My faith. I believe that because I understand the calling that God has placed on my heart, faith pushes me forward when I would rather run away.
