Today we’d like to introduce you to Jasmin Badd.
Jasmin, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I started my entrepreneurial journey as a licensed hairstylist, opening my first salon (The J Spot Hair Salon) at the age of 21 years old. My first seven years of business was full of lessons. As I began to mature, I decided to rebrand and relocate. In 2017, I opened my second salon (Salon Slay). I started coming up with creative promotional videos in my head the first year of opening Salon Slay but was too afraid to act on them.
In 2019, I finally put my fear aside and started bringing the ideas to life. So many people loved them and said the promo videos reminded them of movies. I fell in love with business marketing after that.
In February of this year, I held my first business class, “The Secrets to Salon Success.” The class was a success. Leading me to start my newest company, Baddies With Bands. I slowly started falling out of love with being behind the chair styling hair and wanted to retire. During quarantine, I unintentionally became an author of my first self published novel, 30 Years of Love In 30 Days. Five years prior to writing this book, I lost someone who was very dear to me. He changed my world in 30 days of us knowing each other. I never grieved him until this year. I woke up on the anniversary day of our first date and decided I was ready to openly talk about him on social media.
We went on a date almost every day, so as the days kept going, I kept posting. People started sharing the posts and sending so much love my way. My dm and comments were full of people telling me to write a book. So I started writing. I had no idea how to publish a book but I knew the first thing I needed to do was write. I came across another self-published author and she told me what I needed to do. In 30 days, I wrote the book, hired an editor and published my book. I sold out three times in the first two months, selling over 300 copies of my book. During that time, I finally decided to retire my career as a hairstylist and solely focus on Baddies With Bands and my new career as an author.
Has it been a smooth road?
No, it hasn’t been a smooth road. I’ve faced many challenges during my journey. I have had surgery twice to remove the cancerous ovarian cyst in 2014 and 2015. 2015 was a very rough year for me. I took many losses that year. Losing someone I loved to gun violence, being homeless for three months, leaving out my car and just being flat out broke.
We’d love to hear more about your business.
Baddies With Bands is a company I created to bring women together and help women build successful businesses. I use my platform to empower women and give them the helping hand I never had.
I don’t just talk about women empowerment because it sounds good. I really live it. My company is different because I want every woman I encounter to be successful and better than me. Baddies With Bands teaches women how to properly structure a business. I’m proud of my company because we give women real tools to prosper and have legit businesses, not just a “business” social media page.
Is our city a good place to do what you do?
It’s so many entrepreneurs in Atlanta and I believe Atlanta would be a great place to start. I’m sure its plenty of entrepreneurs in Atlanta that need help getting their business started or rebranding their business.
