Meet Jasmine Billings and Kevorey Hartwell of Becoming She Podcast in Metro Atlanta

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jasmine Billings and Kevorey Hartwell.

Jasmine and Kevorey, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
The idea of Becoming She is centered around two black women growing into themselves, spiritually, mentally, and professionally. Becoming She was created after a major shift happened in both JB & Kvo’s life that presented a fork in the road. At a time in our lives where we could’ve sat in self-pity, or turned to anger, we decided to shift our focus into something more constructive. We knew that our conversations were happening EVERYWHERE, specifically with black women, and wanted to share, empower, and expand our reach. This podcast is to simply share our journey with others who strive to be their most authentic selves while sharing the tools we use to navigate life.

Through many late-night researches, cakes & coffee’s at our spot, and lots of inspiration through various podcasts alike, we decided it was time to go live. Our first episode was released in May of 2019, and we have been releasing episodes on a weekly basis since.

Has it been a smooth road?
Even though the road has not been smooth, the journey has been quite the learning experience. Each day we are presented with something new, which then turns into new ideas, new topics, and more fun. Our main struggle, in the beginning, was not our WHY, but our HOW, WHERE, and WHAT. How do we start a podcast? Where do we find the proper equipment? What is the proper equipment? What platforms should we use to record? It took several months for us to gather all this information because even though we knew our WHY, we didn’t want to release something that was halfway done. It was important that we did this correctly, and even though we knew it wasn’t going to be perfect, we continue to perfect our craft over time.

The time commitment has also been an obstacle we were not aware of prior. Listening to other fellow podcasters, you only hear about the hour or two of their work, but not the several hours it takes to record, edit, and release. We synced our calendars, set up a recording schedule, split responsibilities, and when life gets busy, because… LIFE, we remind each other of the WHY.

Please tell us more about your work. What do you guys do? What do you specialize in? What sets you apart from competition?
Becoming She is a brand! A brand that says, you don’t have to have it all figured out, life happens, but enjoy the journey, release the stress, and be secure in your skin!! By growing into yourself, standing firm in who you are, and not apologizing for being YOU, life opens into more than just a task list. We hope that we can help women see that.

One of our proudest moments is releasing this podcast and opening ourselves up to an unknown world. We don’t always get it right but it’s great to hear about stories of other podcasters who are further in their careers and knowing that they faced the same challenges. Our polarizing dynamic leads to great, engaging conversations.

Is our city a good place to do what you do?
As a podcast, Atlanta is a great area to network, connect, and meet people in the podcast world. There are so many unique ideas and creatives here in the city/near the city, so to be able to tap into this world is an incredible experience. Atlanta truly is a great place to make your vision come alive!!

As we continue to grow, we are hoping to work with other podcasters and open our show for more features. By connecting with other podcasters, we hope to build relationships, learn more about this industry, and reach more people. We are looking forward to planning a live show one day! We hope to reach an audience that not only enjoys us, but demands to be entertained with us as we talk about our journey! Come hang with us!
