Meet Jasmine Hopkins of Faith Based (Hustle) in Midtown

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jasmine Hopkins.

Jasmine, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I’m originally from the west side of Atlanta. My parents decided they wanted better for us & decided to move to the Southside of Atlanta, which wasn’t such a bad area when we moved there lol. Well, let’s just say it was much better than the westside projects.

I was raised by two hustlers that went over and beyond to make sure we didn’t miss a beat. We took plenty of family vacations and was in any sport and activity our hearts desired. We were brought up in a church-going home. My mom had us on the usher board, choir and dance team at church. I was always one of the brightest kids in class but also one of the most troublesome kids. Straight A’s and straight U’s in conduct.

Nevertheless, I graduated & became a student at West GA Univ. where I studied Mass Comm & graphic design. Those years of trying to complete college were interrupted by a huge family crisis & that’s when I began to put my hustle into complete overdrive. Before Faith Based, I owned a custom beaded jewelry line & also currently own a graphics & event planning company called Damaged Goods Designs.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
My road to Faith Based hasn’t been smooth but it has been worth it. When my family had our huge crisis things were flipped upside down. We went from having plenty to going back to the drawing board. I felt that it was time for me to step up. All I had was my faith and my hustle. Everything I did from that point on was based on faith.

My Bishop (Dreyfus C. Smith) has always said “work like it’s all up to you & pray like it’s all up to him(God)) and that’s exactly what I did. I had the idea of a spiritually based company but could never put my finger on what exactly I wanted it to be. I brainstormed on the idea for years while still running my graphics business. Then one day it just hit me, FAITH BASED! It’s all based on FAITH. The slogan “Hustle by faith, not by sight” took me a while to come to but the name was perfect because I felt it as soon as I spoke it.

On the road to building Faith Based I had a great friend by the name of “Lal” that has recently passed who helped me so much on the journey. From picking logos, to finding vendors and just listening to all of my complaints about giving up. Losing Lal should have put a damper on my business but I believe it would’ve been disappointing to him simply because he always stressed to me “don’t be afraid of your brand, push it and be a walking billboard for it”. So, that’s exactly what I do.

Faith Based is a lifestyle brand that promotes putting Faith behind every single thing you do. Faith without work is dead so make sure that you’re putting work behind those prayers. Faith Based has customers and supporters from all walks of life & that by far is the greatest part of the company to me. Many people thought it was going to be “just another Christian brand” but it isn’t. It’s for anyone with a hustle and any type of faith in something greater than themselves. Faith Based bridges the gap and reminds people that you don’t have to be holier than thou to receive grace and mercy.

If you had to start over, what would you have done differently?
If I had to start over I wouldn’t have done anything differently. I believe that we all have our time once we realize our purpose. I was prepared for this at the very moment it happened. This company is my baby because this is my purpose. My purpose is to bridge these gaps. It’s to let those people that sit in the 1st pew know that we hear the same word they hear from the 30th pew.

The girl in the short skirt can be just as blessed as the one in the skirt that’s dropping to the floor. The dope boy can receive just as much grace as the deacon. This is my purpose & this is my time.
