Meet Jasmine Johnson

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jasmine Johnson.

Jasmine, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I had graduated from college, Middle Tennessee State University, in December of 2015, and I started working for RESPECT. Magazine that following year in 2016 until now. I had learned a lot throughout the three going on four years of me being a music journalist who is slowly transitioning to a media correspondent. I wrote about artist’s music and had a chance to interview many of your favorite artists, who are out today, about their careers, upcoming projects and more. In late 2017, I had the opportunity of being a Staff Writer for The Source Magazine. That was a blessing for me because it gave me a bigger audience to reach my content to. At the beginning of 2019 is when my whole life had changed. With the start of covering award shows, in March, I had covered BET Social Awards on the red carpet. In which later, I had the opportunity to cover the annual Revolt Summit that was in Atlanta, Georgia. Many of you know that Diddy was there and interacting with the millennials. I had the opportunity of interviewing his three sons, Prince, King, and Justin, about their experience of the whole summit. Afterward, I had gotten the opportunity to do the green carpet for the BET Hip Hop awards that allowed me to move from Nashville, Tennessee to Atlanta to chase my dreams, as well as, branding myself as Sessions With Jas. I have been doing interviews with many creatives, but with my brand, I want to tell a story and reach to the audience, who haven’t seen an on-camera interview before, but twist it with a session. That is my goal.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
It hasn’t been a smooth road. I had gotten told a lot of no’s before the yes’s came in. With many situations, you will have to get inspired by the no’s to get what you want. You can’t stop or let that tear you down. I use the no’s to inspire me to get to where I need to go.

Please tell us about SessionsWithJas.
My brand is SessionsWithJas. I started branding my business by separating it from others by having different sessions with different artists or creatives. With the courses, I will broaden the audience with different things while interviewing them. I love interviewing because it gives me the chance to tell their story and not be rushed when it comes to sitting one-on-one with them. The proudest of the interview I had done with Skooly. I loved how it turned out and how it told his story that separated himself from the others and how much he was influenced for over a decade with Rich Kidz. Shout out to Delante Armani for editing and shooting it!

If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
I wouldn’t start over because the lessons I have learned made me the woman I am today.
