Today we’d like to introduce you to Jasmine Jones.
Jasmine, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
Also known as Jass or Dazzled by Jass, my journey of nails first started when I was a kid in elementary school. Yes, elementary school. It was quite a funny story. I was in the first grade, and my classmate told me she had nails at home. But her mom said she had to get rid of it because of the smell. Now me being a girly girl, I didn’t think too much into it. She offered to bring it to me and brought it the next day. Let’s just say I went home to YouTube practicing nails, but of course they weren’t good at all! From that day forward, my mother and older sister took me to get my nails done at this 13-dollar nail shop. It was so cool because back then, I used to get airbrushed nails with cool designs. I was 14 in the 9th grade and decided to get into nails and makeup. My mom, who was a cosmetologist, bought me a lot of nail products and accessories. Mainly, my friends were my only customers. I then decided to take my talents to college, because I know it’d be a nice idea to have a nail tech, with reasonable prices on campus. I started doing nails my freshman year at Albany State University. My business expanded to where I would come home for summer break, and still have clientele! Now I’m in my junior year. I have one month left of nails school to obtain my license, while still attending school as a biology major.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
My journey has not been easy. The hard part was getting clients to trust me and learning Professionalism! I had to learn how to handle different clients and different scenarios, especially dealing with a younger crowd in college. Another obstacle that I had to overcome, was me not being able to finish nail school during the summer. I couldn’t finish because I had to come back to Albany for fall semester, so I won’t be able to complete nail school until December break! Other than that, this journey hasn’t been too rough for me. It’s all a learning process!
So, as you know, we’re impressed with Dazzled By Jass – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of and what sets you apart from others.
Dazzled by Jass is mainly about nails, but I am also multi-talented. I not only do nails, I also specialize in makeup and hair! The name Dazzled by Jass came about because when I’m working, I try to enhance my client’s nails or face. I look at the aspect of it as dazzling up my clients and making them shine! I’m proud of my company because this is my third year doing nails, and it seems as if I’m growing. Not slowly. But at a medium pace, where I’m able to step back, monitor my growth, and experience the increase of my clientele, and the progress of my services! What sets me apart from others, is that I’m self-taught at everything I do, and started very young! Nail school was to only increase my knowledge.
So, what’s next? Any big plans?
My future consists of completing nail school and graduating from Albany State with a bachelor’s in biology! My next goal is to get accepted into dental school to become a general dentist. Wherever I attend dental school at, I want to open a nail suite or shop to continue my nail business. Then in the future, I plan on having my own nail salon and dental office!
