Today we’d like to introduce you to Jasmine Martin.
Hi Jasmine, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
As a child, I always enjoyed making accessories for my family and friends. I started off with pony beads, then I would make bracelets from my rainbow loom kit, and I would create lanyards from plastic strings. Around this time, I would try and sale my creations for as low as $1.00. I realized that as a child my side hustle was not making any money. However, that did not stop me from trying to turn my passion into a business. When I was in high school, I noticed that my mother would purchase many jewelry pieces and even beaded bracelets that were created by jewelry businesses like me. She would occasionally buy me pieces that she thought I would like as well.
One day, a spark came to me, and it gave me the opportunity to believe in myself that I could learn to create beautiful pieces that my mother would purchase. When my parents realized that I was interested in promoting my brand that I came up with, they quickly supported my business and invested in supplies that I could use.
As I made different jewelry pieces, I became really gifted at my craft. I started off with quality beaded bracelets that were made with natural stone beads. After that, I introduced chain necklaces and one of my most popular items, photo charm jewelry.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
My business has not been on a smooth road. When I first started out, I was discouraged because I was comparing my business to other jewelry businesses. I could not understand how others were gaining more sales at a much quicker pace than me. I realized in about 3 years into my business that it took dedicated consistency to be able to gain engagement from social media. When I started posting more content, I gained sales, and these sales were nationwide, even a few international ones.
It has also been hard to manage my business, attend college, and work at the same time. Due to the rigorous workload, it has been challenging to try and find a balance between everything. I still do my best to find time to fulfill orders as much as possible during weekends and school breaks.
Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
JEM JEWELS JAS LLC was established in 2019. Jasmine Martin is the owner of this brand. I specialize in creating affordable beaded jewelry, customized photo charm jewelry, and much more. Not only is my jewelry for women but it is for men as well. I also make jewelry starting from babies all the way to adults. What I am most proud of my brand is the reaction of my customers when they receive their product from me. My customers are so fascinated by my work and their compliments motivate me to continue to thrive. Not only do I sale jewelry locally, but I have a website where customers can purchase their desired pieces.
The crisis has affected us all in different ways. How has it affected you and any important lessons or epiphanies you can share with us?
Since I was stuck at home due to the Covid-19 crisis, it motivated me to create more jewelry pieces and focus on my business. It allowed me to have plenty of time to think of ways to promote my brand and do research on how I could introduce new items into my business.
