Meet Jason Andrews of Spotlight Sound Studio

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jason Andrews.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Jason. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
The journey to where I am today started when I was a little kid. Throughout my childhood, I spent my free time taking music lessons for voice, guitar, and piano, as well as performing in the chorus. Prior to opening Spotlight Sound Studio in 2005, I toured off and on for the better part of a decade with a few bands, and I’ve had the pleasure of touring several countries, performing alongside groups such as BTS, Forever the Sickest Kids, Boys Like Girls, Cash Cash, Mest, Eve 6, Yellow Card, Cartel, Jay-Z and more.

Now I spend most of my time as a music producer and audio engineer. I create, record, edit, mix and master many diverse projects. Most of the time I’m working with singers and musicians, but I also record voice-overs for audiobooks and commercials. I am a singer, songwriter and multi-instrumentalist with a degree in Recording Arts from Full Sail University, certified as an operator of Pro Tools. I am also certified by Apple to provide MFiT mastering. I have worked with some incredibly talented acts, such as Holiday Parade, The Bastard Suns, Chantae Cann, Rich Boy, and Akon.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Figuring out how I wanted to run my business was the hardest part. When I started my studio, it was just me.

Growth seemed like an accomplishment, so I pursued it. At one point I had a studio manager, audio editors, interns, and I was working with outside mastering houses – This seemed like a way that I could streamline my business and ramp up productivity for more profit. It worked, but there were many down-sides. When projects are run through this type of assembly line, the quality suffers, and so do I.

I’ve found that keeping my studio small allows me to work with fewer clients, giving them my absolute attention during their projects, and I can take pride in what I’m doing at Spotlight Sound Studio.

Spotlight Sound Studio – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
I think what sets Spotlight Sound Studio apart from other studios is that we are a small operation. Staying small allows us to provide our clients with the best recording experience. I built this studio, and I know the gear inside and out. We have all of the high-end equipment that you’d expect, and as an added bonus I am a musician. I can play many instruments and provide valuable feedback about the most important part – the music!

After the recording process, we also help clients with creating promotional material and setting up digital distribution. We facilitate photoshoots, video shoots, album design, and more.

What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
Seeing the projects I work on succeed definitely makes me proud. Albums that I’ve been a part of have been on the top of the Billboard charts, I’ve played sold out shows all over the world with my clients, and I’ve made a great living producing music. All of that is great, but sometimes I just think about how I get to wake up everyday and do what I love. I think that is the greatest accomplishment of all.
