Today we’d like to introduce you to Jason Gray and Daniel Green.
In January 2014, GTG Traffic Signals was founded by Jason & Daniel. The corporate office is located in Marietta, and they are well known across the state of Georgia. Jason skillfully serves as the marketing manager, estimator of projects and supervisor of all maintenance contracts. Daniel faithfully manages all aspects of the construction projects, business operations, and training of crew members. Together they possess over twenty years of experience, and their working relationship can be described as a dynamic duo.
At the very beginning, GTG started off with three employees. Over the last three years, the business has grown tremendously. To date, there are twenty-five dedicated employees on staff. Many people believed that GTG stand for Gray & Green. In fact, the name has a much deeper meaning. The letters GTG stands for Glory to God which represents their Christian beliefs and core values.
They first met in 2009 when they worked for Cobb County DOT. They had worked for different agencies before their paths crossed. All throughout their tenure at Cobb County, they continue to increase in their desire to learn and grow in the traffic signal industry. During that time, the idea of starting their own business surfaced as a brilliant and possible venture. However, their time working together in Cobb County was short-lived.
Their dreams took them into other realms in relation to construction, installation of multiple types of traffic signal products, signal maintenance, and training. Even though their jobs were in different areas within the traffic signal industry, today, they are thankful because this exposure afforded them access to valuable knowledge. This transition allowed them to gain the experience needed to launch a successful business in the future. Unknown to them, their skill sets were being shaped and fine-tuned for the current position they hold today. As their horizons broaden, so did their influence in the market, and networking opportunities.
GTG has certainly been blessed over the last few years with extraordinary growth. Only God knows how far and how wide the company will advance. The lessons learnt over these last few years have been priceless to them. they are convinced, that nothing happens by coincidence. They continue to give all the credit to God for weaving their paths and skills together, into a beautiful tapestry that continues to amaze them daily. All Glory To God!
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Over the past few years, GTG has been steadily growing. The biggest challenge we faced were related to securing a line of credit for emergencies. Acquiring bonding for projects and business insurance took the most time and effort. As a new company, our lack of experience and credibility in the industry was the major roadblock. in the beginning, the company was considered high risk and there were very few companies available that would allow us to secure bonding and insurance.
Please tell us about GTG Traffic Signals.
GTG is a DBE traffic signal contractor, specializing in the construction of intersections and maintenance of traffic signals. We are known for our fulltime participation in the City of Atlanta with the Renew Atlanta Bond Program where we provide maintenance and installation upgrades.
The most spectacular thing that has happened to us is winning the traffic signal maintenance contract in the City of Sandy Spring. That opportunity has opened a whole new realm of possibilities for our growing company.
We possess a high level of experience with traffic signal maintenance, troubleshooting and construction. Currently we are on the statewide maintenance contract for GDOT.
We also have a detection maintenance contract with the City of Roswell to improve detection with loops and Sensys. We provide On-Call maintenance services for College Park, and Cherokee County.
If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
Looking back, the major hurdles we had to climb again were related to accessing bonding and insurance. The contracts we acquired, requested bonds and insurance that were specific to the traffic signal industry.
Today, we have solved those issues, but in the past, we were not referred to the right people. If we had to start over, we would seek to employ an insurance agent who was well versed in the construction industry. The counsel we received pointed us in a direction that hindered our progress. Thankfully, all those kinks have been ironed out.
