Today we’d like to introduce you to Jason Hoang.
Hi Jason, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I’m a Navy veteran, and my journey into barbering started while I was serving — I used to cut hair for my fellow shipmates on the ship. After getting out, I earned my degree in IT and worked in the field, but my passion for cutting hair never went away. Along the way, I trained at a few of my friends’ salons and eventually decided to get my Master Cosmetology License. and perfected a unique cutting technique that sets us apart.
After getting licensed, I worked at different salons and barbershops to gain experience and perfect my skills. Eventually, my wife and I found a house in Cumming with a large lot for sale, and we decided to buy it and build a barbershop right next to our home. We opened our doors in late 2018, and we’ve been proudly serving our community ever since.
In 2022, our son joined the business after earning his barber license, and now the two of us work side by side. Between the both of us, we can cut any style, but we specialize in men’s haircuts with a unique technique that sets us apart from other barbershops. While most barbers fade the sides and use scissors on top, we usually cut the entire head using clippers only. Our clipper-over-comb method gives cleaner results, better texture, and a more natural lay, especially for clients with curly or wavy hair. It creates an even, consistent cut every time — something traditional scissor techniques can’t always achieve.
Over the years, our business has grown steadily, and we’ve become well-known in our community. In the local Facebook group Focus on Forsyth, which has around 50,000 members, people often recommend and brag about our shop. We’re proud to have earned a 5-star rating on Google — all from genuine reviews, not from discounts or promotions like some other places.
We love what we do, we take pride in our craft, and we’re grateful to be part of such an amazing community.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Building our shop next to our home was one of the biggest challenges we faced. We had to go through the entire process — getting permits, rezoning the property, and handling all the construction details ourselves. On top of that, starting out with a limited budget made things even tougher. Getting the word out about our shop was another hurdle since we didn’t have much to spend on marketing.
But over time, we worked hard, stayed committed, and slowly improved both the shop and the surrounding area to make it look and feel better for our clients. It wasn’t easy, but every step brought us closer to building the business we have today.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
