Today we’d like to introduce you to Jason O. Myles.
Jason, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I began investing in real estate in 2001 with no money and no credit as a wholesaler, finding undervalued properties and selling them to fix and flippers for a little more than I contracted them for. The business grew and I got really good at multiple techniques over the next few years and began speaking and training nationally.
Then the financial storm of the century happened in 2008. I now had to start all over with nothing but what I’d learned over the years, accept this time I was now a single father of three. The four of us did it together. We drove the streets looking at potential opportunities, knocked on doors, passed out flyers and went to meetings together until things got back on track. Today, I still have a wholesale business, but we’ve added a few more things to the mix. A fix and flip business, education business and we are now buying apartment complexes in the southeast.
Has it been a smooth road?
Learning the business was the toughest part. Getting a clear understanding of all of the options that are available to me as it relates to structuring deals. The most difficult time in my life happened between 2008 and 2011. The market tanked and we lost everything. I also lost a son in 2010 and got a divorce shortly thereafter. It was at this point that I became a single father.
Alright – so let’s talk business. What else should we know about your work?
I am most known for the educational aspects of my business. It’s also what I’m most proud of in business. After all that I had to go through in learning how to create success in real estate, I find it most exciting to share with others how to avoid some of the pitfalls and hopefully get there a little sooner that I did. I share this information on our weekly podcast (real estate 360), online training, live training and giving all that I can in the field.
Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
I LOVE the fact that anyone can create success in Atlanta! This is the most entrepreneurial city on the planet! This is where people come to make it for themselves. It reminds me of the Harlem renaissance. Being originally from St. Paul, MN, I came here in 1991 and immediately fell in love with the city and all that it had to offer. I began my businesses here. I built a family here. I grew into a man here. I’ve created a life here. There is nothing I can say bad about my city that I wouldn’t want to be a part of changing.
