

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jason Williams.
So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
We’ll I started out as a guitarist at the age of 4. By the time I was 7, I was playing in bands. I was always the one who could figure out how to set up the PA system. So at 15 when I started my second job working at Target, I set my sights on working in the Electronics Department. Within a year or so, I was the assistant manager for the Electronics department. I worked for Target for several years and then moved into other jobs for a short time before coming back to the Audio Video field. I put in applications with Radio Shack and HiFi Buys for sales positions and was hired by both companies. Radio Shack started me first so I worked for them for about 3 weeks before joining the team at HiFi Buys.
While on the sales team, it came to light that I had a natural understanding of how electronic components worked together and could fix pretty much anything. So I was always kept in charge of maintaining our demonstration rooms. In 1999, Hifi Buys decided to create a new In-Home Installation Department and I was asked to help run it. I did so for about a year before I decided that I hated sitting behind a desk all day and would rather be out in the field. So I became an apprentice installation tech and within one year was a crew chief and master installer. I left HiFi Buys in 2005 to pursue a career as a full-time guitarist and singer. I toured under the name Lefty Williams for a decade and had quite a bit of success. Being a one-handed guitarist, the media loved me and I got a lot of attention from the press as a result. I have been featured in worldwide publications such as Guitar World, Guitar Player, Vintage Guitar and a ton of other local newspapers radio stations, and TV stations around the USA. In 2008, CNN, HLN, AOL Video and AOL Video UK ran a feature story on me that wound up being replayed all over the world on various local TV news channels and internet outlets. I still wind up seeing myself on TV when I walk into my dentist’s office because they replay the interview on WebMD regularly LOL. The attention wasn’t unwarranted though. I managed to win the “Best Rock Male 2016” at the Georgia Music Awards. And I was nominated for Homegrown Music Network’s Album of the Year 2008 with my second release Snake Oil. I’ve performed at and even headlined major festivals around the USA like DogWood Festival in Atlanta, Riverbend Festival in Chattanooga, 420 Fest, MidSummer Music Fest, River Front Nights, Down On The Farm in Tallahassee, and others. All the while in my spare time I would do subcontracting work for other companies around Atlanta. Then in 2015 I decided that I needed a break from my performing life and started up Williams AV & Security. At this point I’ve been in the AV industry since 1989. One of my defining focuses is to always provide the highest possible quality and service at a fair price. I understand that my customers have many other options that will be cheaper than me and some that are more expensive. So my focus is on customer service and always doing the job right, even if it costs me to do it.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Starting my own business in the electronics industry has been fun. For the most part things have gone really well. The biggest challenges I have faced has been finding good help and new customers.
