Meet Javaris Askin

Today we’d like to introduce you to Javaris Askin.

Hi Javaris, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
During my freshman year of college, I begin to grow an interest in men’s style and grooming. I made a realization that I was my most confident self when I felt I looked my best. This included having a fresh haircut with good hygiene and dressing well. With this new developed interest in fashion and overall men’s lifestyle, I begin doing more research and learning. I found myself watching various Men’s Fashion and Lifestyle creators on YouTube such as TeachingMensFashion, Alex Costa, and DevanOnDeck just to name a few. I grew a passion for learning more about style and Men’s grooming until eventually, I decided to create my own YouTube channel and platform on Instagram related to fashion. I wanted to help guys understand that anyone can have style and that it is important to have good and healthy habits regarding appearance. Looking good isn’t only for women and it is also not about being conceited. I promote the “3 P’s” with my platform: Polished, Positive, and Productive. I believe if you look your best (Polished), you’ll feel your best (Positive) and thus do your best (Productive). I believe I still have a lot to learn and more growing to do as a creator, but I am happy with where I am now and I am excited for what the future has in store for me in growing my platform and reach.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
I am sure I can speak for many creators when I say growing a platform and audience on social media is not the easiest task. For some, it may happen quickly however, for myself and I’m sure many others, it takes a lot of commitment and dedication. I would say my biggest struggle as an upcoming content creator would be that unfortunately, I have other obligations that sometimes do not allow me to fully create my content and pursue my passion as strongly as I would like to. This past May, I graduated with my Master’s in Accountancy so being a full-time student definitely took time away from me creating content. Also, as I begin my full-time career working in the Accounting field while studying for my CPA license, it can be difficult to make time to create content. Although I love what I do, this can become time-consuming and even exhausting, especially while having a full-time job. Another struggle I face is remembering to not always focus on the numbers in regard to likes, views, comments, etc. As a small creator sometimes, it is frustrating because I want to reach a larger audience, but I keep God first and remember everything is on his timing while also keeping my “why” in mind. Understanding why I started in the first place allows me to stay focused, motivated, and consistent when the feelings of doubt and discouragement enter my body.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am a creator and make content on both YouTube and Instagram platforms. Specially on YouTube, I create videos on topics including but not limited to, clothing hauls, sneaker reviews, men’s fashion advice, and even occasional vlogs. I enjoy sharing this content with my audience in hopes of giving them new places to shop for clothes and sneakers while also providing creative styling ideas. On Instagram, I mainly focus on providing “easy to recreate” outfit inspiration for guys while sometimes uploading morning routine reels and other lifestyle content. I want to help guy find their style and build a wardrobe that they are proud of. I believe one thing that sets me apart from others is my unique style and range in fashion. Many fashion creators like to stick to one particular style, but I enjoy switching it up every now and then. Although I mainly focus on streetwear and occasionally more classy/dapper wear, I do try to push myself to try out new fashion styles. I believe I have more learning and developing to do as a creator, however I know what has gotten me where I am so far is my consistency. It is a struggle sometimes to upload content during busier weeks where I have other priorities however I make it a point to push through and stay consistent because I know my end goal.

Can you tell us more about what you were like growing up?
Growing up, I was actually relatively similar to how I am now. Of course, I have grown and learned a lot over the years through life experiences however, even as I child I was relatively organized and ambitious. At a young age, I was very clear and aware of my goals and what it would take to achieve them. Since childhood a lot of my goals and desired have changed however my approach to working toward them has not changed much. I began running track at age 10 and it was something I really enjoyed growing up. I ran track up through senior year of high school. Even as a child I knew I enjoyed looking my best, but never made the realization until college. I liked wearing suits or nice casual clothes to school.
