Today we’d like to introduce you to Javia Fuller.
Hi Javia, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
First and foremost, I am a child of God. In Him, I live and move and have my being. I am a mother of three. I had my fraternal twins when I was a teenager and my youngest daughter nine years later. I’ve worked with infants and toddlers since I was in high school, and much of my working life after high school was the typical 9-to-5 and various jobs to support my family. I’ve always loved teaching, which I inherited from my mother who has been an educator for the past 25 years. She has been my primary example and template of a successful woman. As a young girl, I watched her raise five children and hold multiple jobs, all while earning her bachelor’s and master’s degrees. It was not an ideal situation for her, but I definitely learned the faith and tenacity it takes to MAKE your dreams into a reality. After teaching for over fifteen years I started to see that I wanted to make a bigger impact both inside and outside of the classroom, but I wasn’t sure exactly how. I knew I wanted to work for myself and be an example to other educators (especially Black women) on how to empower yourself and live out your dreams. So, when the pandemic hit in 2020 and I saw how ineffective the system could be, I decided to do some research on local industries that have growth potential and a substantial income. Shipping and transportation turned out to be a growing sector in the Atlanta area. So, I decided to take my shot. I studied the industry, invested in an experienced coach, and established F&F INC. I now own and operate three successful and growing businesses in the Metro Atlanta area, the others being JMarie Tax Solutions and JMarie Solutions, a credit repair and management service. My ultimate goal is to inform and empower my community with the knowledge they need to support their families, build wealth, and then pass it on. In short, I’m still an educator, only now I’ve made the world my classroom.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
My road to entrepreneurship has not been easy, but it has definitely been favored by God. He has placed the right people in my path to bring advice, encouragement, and resources. One of my favorite poems is Mother to Son by Langston Hughes because “Life for me ain’t been no crystal stair,” okay?! I established my business in 2020 during the pandemic while I was working as an elementary teacher in Clayton County. I was contending with keeping myself and my family healthy, virtual teaching, operating a tutoring program, and forming my first business F&F INC. I started taking virtual classes on the trucking industry and gained the mentorship of an experienced coach who helped walk me through the ins and outs of the industry. The greatest challenge was really adjusting from an employee mindset to that of an entrepreneur and then helping to do the same with my family and friends. Changing the way one thinks about business and money is really an internal shift that I had to make. After some trial and error, I gained my footing and became one of the top shipping companies in my region. Plus, I enjoy the problem-solving and competitive nature of business. Once F&F was up and running, I established two more businesses: JMarie Tax Solutions and JMarie Solutions (credit repair management).
