Meet Javier McIntosh

Today we’d like to introduce you to Javier McIntosh.

Javier, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I started doing more photography and videography. I started my company during college. Once I graduated, I went full-time and eventually taught my brother how to edit and film as fell. We quickly realized he was very talented in this area and we decided to start a company together. The Mcintosh Bros Productions was born. From there we started working with clients like Sprite, Reebok, the world’s biggest car brands like Toyota and much more.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The road has not always been smooth. I had to struggle and fight for what I received and learn the hard lessons. One of the biggest lessons I learned early in my career was making sure I received payment before delivering the product. I was stiffed payment on a $10,000+ project. That was one of the hardest losses in my whole life, but fighting through that was one of the best things that happen to me because it just made me stronger moving forward.

Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about McIntosh Bros Productions – what should we know?
A big portion of our business over the years has been car commercials and upbeat commercials. We have worked with every major car brand including Toyota, Kia, BMW, Ford, you name them. We’ve learned the car industry and what people are looking for when a car commercial comes on television. Other than that, we are really known for our style of editing. We have won countless editing awards over the years. We have the ability to make the simplest project, event or corporate message feel like it is in a music video. We incorporate cinematic shots and quick cuts to complement the tone and the message.

Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
Passion is the most important quality. If you have passion with what you do, the drive will come. Drive leads to success. If you have the drive every day when you wake up and put in the effort ever day the work will get better and the clients will come. If work doesn’t feel like work then you’ll want to be doing it all the time. The more hours you put in the better and better you’ll become. Mastering comes at 10,000 hours and the quicker you can get there the better. Longevity comes when you love what you do. There are so many things I do where the margins aren’t there, but I love doing it and years later it leads to something huge. That’s where the success comes, when you least expect it. When preparation meets luck. The harder I work, the luckier I get.
