Today we’d like to introduce you to Jayda Martin.
Hi Jayda, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I walked away from my 9-5 last year with less than $500 in our checking account when I was faced with an unexpected pregnancy loss and had -2 vacation days. None of which I had taken actual vacations with but instead cared for sick children or was sick myself. That was the final straw for me, and I knew the only way to truly build the lifestyle I desired for our family, I needed to become an entrepreneur.
I got to work launching a virtual assistance business, telling everyone I knew that I was starting my own thing, practically begging for connections, and within five days, I launched a website, branding, services, and the whole deal. It was all very cookie-cutter, and I knew nothing about forming an LLC. Thankfully I have an extensive marketing background (8+ years), but at that point I was just praying that someone would hire me as their VA.
To my surprise, within two weeks of launching my business, I had secured my full-time income and booked out my services for the entire quarter. It was then that I knew I had made the correct choice and would never have to choose between my kids and career again. Entrepreneurship would be my ticket to both.
I followed God’s voice and my gut instinct as a mom, and just put one foot in front of the other. Now, nearly ten months later, I’ve built a six-figure virtual assistance business and am using my experience/background to launch a marketing and consulting firm, Jayda Martin Agency. My passion for marketing and brand strategy has lit a fire in me, but that’s not even the best part.
My whole experience has become a testimony that I use to teach other women how to leave their 9-5s with sustainable online business plans. My personal brand, Jayda Martin, has grown to a community of 30K incredible women, with 4,000+ students in my digital products, courses, and guides.
I created a signature mini-course and am developing multiple others. To help women find their version of success with online business, which is usually defined as time and financial freedom. I’m also launching a podcast, Mom Dream, in which every episode will be a free resource full of value itself.
Amongst all of that, my husband quit his job as well, and we packed up, moved across the country home, and are redefining what we want our “careers” to look like. I’m dead set on building a business that works alongside of motherhood instead of against it. This is my legacy.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
My whole life, I struggled to have a vision and felt like I was wandering from one season to the next without any idea as to what career I wanted to pursue or a clear purpose. I used to feel pangs of jealousy for anyone who had a very clear plan.
When I started my business, all of a sudden I had so much vision for what God could do through me, from serving clients nationwide to creating courses to help other moms launch into entrepreneurship.
One of my biggest challenges the past year has been taking my enormous ideas, which I’m so grateful to have, and knowing what the next right step is for me: how to execute and break it down into tangible goals I can accomplish while at home with my kids.
There’s also been the mom guilt, which I’m convinced every mother deals with, of how much business is too much business. I’m constantly re-evaluating how I spend my time, so that I can focus on high-impact work and truly be present when I’m with my babies.
