Meet Jaylon Ashaun

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jaylon Ashaun.

So, before we jump into specific questions, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I started singing when I was young, but in college is where are started pursuing a music career. I wrote songs and people started gravitating to them. Which made me want to make more. After moving to Atlanta from Texas a few years ago, I found a scene that embraced my sound, and I have been building my brand and fanbase ever since.

Has it been a smooth road?
I think one of the biggest challenges as an artist has been the road of self-discovery. It took some trial and error of me trying different styles to figure out what fits me best. When I listen to my songs now, I finally feel like I have developed my sound to a point that it’s an accurate reflection of who I am and where I’m at in life.

We’d love to hear more about your work and what you are currently focused on. What else should we know?
My name is Jaylon Ashaun, I’m a modern R&B singer based in Atlanta, Georgia. I’m more recently known for my video series called “Rough Drafts”. Every Wednesday from February 13th to August 21st, I released a 1-minute song and visual and called them Rough Drafts. These videos gained a lot of traction and new exposure. I’m now about to release a project called Final Draft with some of the completed songs.

How do you think the industry will change over the next decade?
Music is a forever changing thing. It seems like we live in an age where people care more about feeling music than listening critically to it, which means you don’t have to be saying much to get people’s attention for a moment. I also think social media has made being a musician a game of popularity which can make it hard for an artist to balance effective strategies and authenticity. I think over the next 5-10 years, things will come back full circle and people will begin to want music with a little more depth in it in mainstream culture. Just my guess though, who knows.
