Meet Jazmin McBride of Jazz’d Up Collections in East Atlanta/ Midtown/ Southside

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jazmin McBride.

Jazmin, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
It all started in Charlotte, NC. I was around the age of 6/7 years old when my mother first made me do my own hair, and that’s when I realized I was interested and good with the arts of hair. Fast forwarding to my 10th-grade year in high school around April 2016.

I wanted to go on my first spring break trip with some upperclassmen but had to find a way to provide the funds for the trip by myself so I turned to hair. It took me precisely three weeks to earn the amount needed and that’s when I recognized that the window of opportunity just opened itself up by showing me it’s possible to earn, stack and save with doing hair. All throughout high school, I did hair but my freshman year at THE ALABAMA STATE UNIVERSITY made me realize I needed to take hair a little more seriously other than just doing friends and family hair. So on December 6th of 2018, I came home to further invest more into my business of being my own boss and to build my clientele, and now as of December 12th of 2019, I work in two different shops one in East Atlanta and the other in Midtown.

Has it been a smooth road?
My hair journey has and is still is absolutely not a smooth road. There were thousands of times I wanted to quit, times where I did quit and where I lost more money then I made. When I first started, I was doing hair from my house and many clients were not comfortable with that and preferred a shop. Which eventually made me start losing clients. I also didn’t feel like it was the safest route because different people both men and women had my home address. Throughout the journey it was hard building my clientele because of the city I currently live in (Atlanta, GA) where everyone does hair, makeup, nails and etc…… and lastly the money portion of being your own boss. It took me time to realize and understand that I would have to invest my own money into my business in order to build my brand and to make a true profit.

So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Jazz’d Up Collections story. Tell us more about the business.
The name of my brand is JAZZ’D UP COLLECTIONS. It is a hair based company located in Atlanta, GA. My specialties are the following: Quick-weaves, Sewins, Braids, Locs, Ponytails, Men braids, and Passion twist, but throughout that whole list, I am most known for my Knotless Braids and Quick weaves. As a brand, I am most proud of how far I’ve come in such a short period of time and how far I know I could grow and go! A few things you can find unique about me and my brand include the following: My outgoing personality, my ability to start conversation, the way I interact and engage with my clients and the true love and passion behind all of my work.

How do you think the industry will change over the next decade?
In 5-10 years, I see the hair industry still being popular and big. Maybe a couple of new styles and more natural hair but nothing major. Personally, in those 5-10 years, I see myself owning and running my own shop and occasionally doing hair just for the joy and fun of it.
