Today we’d like to introduce you to Jazmine-Renae’.
Jazmine, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
From Boston to Atlanta, I have been singing to audiences for 25 years. I began my singing career in my church’s choir at the age of five. I was in Chorus all four years of high school, where I also formed a girl group called “Divine”. We decided to split and go our separate ways later in 2007. With influences from Beyonce’, Lauryn Hill, Emily King, Teena Marie and many more, I am now out pursuing my own solo career performing in shows all over Atlanta. I stay steadily on my grind as I conquer music career and my normal life. What most people don’t know is I also have a passion for kids. I was in Corporate America since the age of 21. That never was my destiny and was never in a happy place being there. I decided to take a HUGE risk in January of this year and left my job. No backup plan, no second job, I just knew that wasn’t where I was supposed to be.
Fast forward to the present, and now I work as a full-time nanny, working for myself, and still grinding with my music. My path consists of staying heavily in the studio, pushing singles and trying to perform as much as I can. My first big accomplishment was being featured on TLBN Radio in Alabama where they played my first single: “No Other Girl” in 2013 with over 50,000 views on YouTube. After that, I took a break from the music for about two years and came back in 2017 and created my own independent artist showcase called Music N Vibez. I started it because me being an independent artist myself, I realize how hard it is for independent artists to get themselves out there. So, I created it to give them a platform and to network and meet new people. After that, I came out with my next single called “Too Good” along with a visual. I now am pushing my new single called “Fruition”, which is all about owning it and being a boss in your own right! After putting out all these singles, and working so hard, I think it’s now time to put out an album. I’ve met so many dope musicians, singers, songwriters, producers, etc. Therefore, I believe this album will be nothing short of amazing and can’t wait to get started on it. My album will be entitled, “Birth of A Flower” and will talk about my journey and I can’t wait for everyone to take the journey with me.
Has it been a smooth road?
It definitely has not been a smooth road for me. It’s hard enough being an independent artist, but to also be a female independent artist makes the struggle even harder. Sometimes, you don’t know who just wants to take advantage of you, or who really wants to work with you. And you sometimes don’t know if you can trust anyone to want to help you without wanting something in return. Which is the main reason why I have been doing so much on my own, and why I believe my journey has been a long one. But I’m learning to use better judgment and trust more people now.
What do you do, what do you specialize in, what are you known for, etc. What are you most proud of as a company? What sets you apart from others?
I specialize in R&B, but I believe what sets me apart is that I can be versatile and sing any genre I put my mind to. What I’m most proud of is simply to just keep going. Doing this on your own and dealing with so many different personalities and criticisms in the industry can get discouraging.
How do you think the industry will change over the next decade?
I plan and pray to be on a completely different level with my music. I also don’t believe that music has to be the only dream that I can chase. I plan on owning many businesses and being on an international level.
