Today we’d like to introduce you to Jean-Philippe Gibson.
Jean, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I was born and raised in Macon, GA. I attended and played college football at Savannah State University for one year. I attended three more colleges before deciding to join the U.S. military. I spent six years working a lot of hours in the U.S. military, traveling across the world, and fighting in a war. I separated from the U.S. military in 2013 to pursue becoming a Christian minister.
I moved to Atlanta, GA in 2013, and subsequently received a bachelor’s degree in religious studies from Georgia State University in Atlanta, GA in 2015. I enrolled in Candler School of Theology at Emory University to pursue a Master’s of Divinity in the fall of 2016. It was in the spring of 2016 that I discovered knowledge about real estate investing. I used the wholesale strategy to wholesale two real estate properties in 2016.
In 2017, circumstances helped me make the decision to engage in real estate investing full time. I met Reunekiea Williams in the summer of 2016. I knew I was supposed to work with her, it was fate so to speak. I would sporadically make appointments at her office at 191 Peachtree Tower in downtown Atlanta, GA. On June 1, 2017, we were sitting in the office at 191 Peachtree Tower when we formally decided to partner in the real estate and financial sector using her company Fortune Key Financials.
Reunekiea had been doing real estate and finance since she was 15 years old. I spent 18-months learning everything from her about real estate, finance, and credit as much as I could in that time span.
I used the benefits of being a military veteran to obtain a LinkedIn premium account free for one year. I used my knowledge of geography to add real estate, business, government officials, and finance professionals from metropolitan areas in countries around the world during that time span. As a result of the real estate and finance skillset that I learned from Reunkiea eventually those aforementioned professionals from around the world started requesting connections with me by the thousands.
In the interim Reunekiea and I filled out our staff with interns from colleges and universities locally in the metro Atlanta area (most of our interns came from Georgia State University), and also had interns from universities across the country that worked remotely. We had about a 30 person staff in-all. Some of our interns were attending ivy leagues schools, and some of our interns attended the university they could afford and/or get admission into.
I learned a lot about brokering loans for private money sources, hard money lending companies, hedge funds, and international lending firms. I’d spend a great deal of time connecting individuals and companies that needed funding for real estate projects that required thousands of dollars, or companies or real estate projects that required hundreds of millions of dollars.
Whether it would be a billionaire reaching out, beginning real estate investors, or famous movie directors reaching out for our funding services, we would treat them all the same and seek to consult and close the deals to the best of our abilities.
In the fall of 2018, Reunkiea and I decided I was ready to build my own company. Reunkiea has access to approximately six billion us dollars in funding presently, acting in the role as a certified funds manager.
I presently have partnerships with various funding sources around the world that total in the billions of us dollars as well. I’m also presently negotiating some multifamily opportunities with Steve Todd Morris, George Johnson, Ramon Tookes, and Tim Bratz in the real estate sector.
I mentor beginning real estate investors, repair credit and provide credit counseling, and have the personal contact information of a plurality of billionaires, hundred millionaires, and government officials from around the world in my contact list. I would have never imagined the possibility of that aspect of my present reality when I attended my first real estate seminar in the year 2016.
I also executive produce a television show called “The Pressure TV” with my business partner Greg Edwards (known in music circles as DJ Westside). Season 2 will premiere this year on YouTube. Major stars such as Akon, Big Boi (from Outkast), Pastor Troy, Daz Dillinger, Curtis Snow, and more guests have appeared on our show. And of course, our main cast Rod “Shooter” Gates (from Love and Hip Hop Atlanta), DJ Funky, Greg Taylor, Malik Marcell, Rogelio Lorenzo, Ralow Redd, and Ann Jonia do a phenomenal job bringing the storylines to life on each episode. Season 2 of The Pressure TV will be the final independent season of the show; we’ve been negotiating with major digital and network distributors this past year. Enjoy Season 2 as a viewing audience, and we’ll announce what company we sign on with to distribute the show in the coming months.
I have also been working on the relaunch of the legendary JMJ Records, founded by the late Jam Master Jay of Run DMC. We look forward to signing and launching artists from the relaunched JMJ Records in 2020. I also recently partnered with Gongu Roach and Frank “Nitt Da Gritt” Robinson on a music business venture.
I am also a journalist. My news articles have appeared on Yahoo News, the Inquisitr News, and other news outlets. I am scheduled to be published in Family Office Magazine which is owned by Sir Anthony Ritossa and the Ritossa Family Office. I also periodically appear as a guest commentator on TMZ Live alongside Raquel Harper, Harvey Levin, Charles Latibeaudiere, and other members of the TMZ staff.
All in all, I’m still learning, and still growing every day in all the areas in which I work, and most importantly as a person. In the near future, I plan to engage more in Christian ministry doing missions work and as a youth pastor, after all, I started my real estate and finance journey to seed Christian churches.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
One of my greatest struggles has been my diagnosis and battles with Post Traumatic Stress Syndrome (PTSD) as a result of being a combat military veteran. It truly takes a constant regiment of holistic wellness for me to remain present and execute. I’ve been fortunate to have a great team of mentors, professionals, and therapists to help me win the fight for me.
It takes a team to be successful. I’m thankful my team cares enough to see my journey through. There’s been a lot of therapist sessions and a lot of proverbial tears. Me being here after a lot of difficult moments and days is truly a success in itself that I’m truly grateful for.
Just entrepreneurially speaking, the greatest challenge can be having the right heart set and the right mindset. You may have to battle through a thousand no’s to get to that one yes. So you have to realize a strong mind and a strong resolve is something you do and not something you have. In other words, strong will and strong resolve is something you develop daily by doing. Even when it hurts, just know, you can still do it; do it in the midst of the hurt.
Most people see failure as a reason to give up, but failure is a necessary part of success. So you need an environment filled with voices that will encourage you to fail until you succeed, and not voices telling you to give up at the first sign of hardship. The day you plant the seed, is not the day the tree grows. Sometimes success may come instantly, at other times success may take years. Just keep watering the seed and success will grow.
Building a great team around you is equally important. Sometimes you have to build-up some of those team members, so you have to be patient as they grow into their natural abilities. Building people into the best version of themselves is a necessary and integral part of any companies growth. And to scale your company, you’ll need people. Welcome the people building, although it can be hard, because we all come from different backgrounds.
Bringing value to your mentors won’t always be easy, but it is necessary so you can re-pour, what they are pouring into you. Time is valuable, so add value to your mentor’s time. It can prove daunting because you may not have the experience, network, or resources they possess initially, but where there is a will, there is a way.
I speak from experience on what I discussed above. Perfection and the prefect environment will never arrive for any of us, so we have to fight to succeed every day (myself included), especially an entrepreneur.
We’d love to hear more about the company.
What we do at DWG Holdings is syndicate real estate portfolios for international clients and domestic clients. We provide credit counseling and credit repair services. We provide funding for established businesses, start-up businesses, and real estate project projects domestically and internationally. As a company, we’re most proud that we have the trust of many companies and business professionals globally, as we are still a relatively young company. What sets us apart is our global reach.
What is “success” or “successful” for you?
I define success as achieving goals that are true to your purpose. Your purpose is intuitively tied to the areas you are naturally gifted in and the tasks you want to complete even if no one pays you to do it. One way to track your success is to write down mission, vision, and value statements that govern your life. This will bring clarity and delineate parameters that define your pursuit of purpose. Then consistently say and write goals that are in line with your purpose, mission, vision, and value statements that govern your life. That is how you measure success. To meet benchmarks that align with your goals and values is the truest definition of success.
