Today we’d like to introduce you to Jebel Jones.
Jebel, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
While on deployment, with the Navy, I would sit back and think about what I wanted to do once I left the military. As time passed, I realized that I wanted to help people relax, with there being so much stress in the world. So, initially, my intention for getting into the massage industry was to help people relax, but once I started massage school, I learned massage isn’t just to help people relax but health reasons as well, which made me fall in love with it even more. I was in the aviation industry, making perfect money, but I was feeling unfulfilled and didn’t have a purpose. I have now found that purpose of being a massage therapist.
Once I graduated from massage school and became licensed in 2015, I started working in two well-known spas. I worked in these spas for a few years before venturing out on my own. It was hard starting because I didn’t have a lot of clients, and I thought I had to drop my prices to get clients. I failed to realize at the time that I could not under value my talents, and people do pay for what they want. At one point, I thought I was going to have to go back into the aviation industry. However, through networking and an awesome support system, I can now say my business is flourishing, and going backward is no longer a thought.
My goal, with every massage, is to have each and every client feeling better mentally and physically. Once a client gets off of my table, I expect them to say, “that was the best massage ever!” or “I feel so much better, thank you!”. Comments such as those bring me so much joy and excitement, because I know I am making a difference in someone’s life. One thing about massage, there is always more to learn, and I’m thirsty for knowledge. I have taken what I’ve learned from school, my continuing education courses, and other knowledgeable therapists; to enhance my knowledge and skillset to become the therapist I am today.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Some of the struggles I have as a male massage therapist are women/me not wanting to get a massage by a man. The men because they don’t feel comfortable with another man massaging them and some women having touch issues, whether it be from past traumas or what have you. Some men don’t want another man massaging their woman, so that’s and issue, along with the majority of people thinking male therapist is in it to get women. These are all real struggles of the male massage therapist today.

Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
One of my favorite childhood memories was when I stuck a match between my cousin’s toes, like on cartoons, and lit it. Looking back on this, we can laugh about it now, but in all actuality, this was a stupid thing to do, but I learned my lesson. This is my favorite because it taught me not to listen to people when I know something to be wrong but to think for myself and not to follow the crowd.
