Today we’d like to introduce you to Jeff Karl.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Jeff. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
Originally from New York I went to school for Architecture at Pratt institute, yet my true calling was and still is Interior Design, for which I earned a Bachelors of Arts. Having spent a number of years working at large design firms in Atlanta designing hotel and country club projects, I started Total Concept Interiors in 1990. Although we still do some hospitality work our main focus these days are multi-family communities.
Has it been a smooth road?
As with all other design firms and every housing related business, we had quite a slump following 2008. But perseverance and loyal clients saw us through that time even if opportunities for projects were rather lean. Work picked up slowly at first, but now we are again working on some really fun and rewarding projects.
So, as you know, we’re impressed with Total Concept Interiors – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
We develop designs that whether contemporary or traditional or a seamless combination of both are timeless; each one tuned to the demographics and location of the project. Most of our projects are multi-family and condo related. These run the gambit from leasing centers, sales offices and models to the clubrooms, Cyber Café, corridors, and full clubhouses. We recently renovated and completed a 6000 sq. ft. two level Resident’s Clubhouse for Ventron that is like a country club in and of itself. We are currently working on projects for CWS, Camden and a full renovation of a 9000 sq. ft. clubhouse in Virginia for Alliance Residential.
We produce work that not only thrills our clients but at the end of the day that we also are happy with. We don’t do mediocre! Each project is designed to the last detail including the art and accessories. We keep in mind that besides having to be beautiful, public spaces need to be functional and hold up for many years. We only use contract grade fabrics and finishes. When designing a new project, we always adhere to our client’s budgetary limitations. Many firms can produce a great design with an unlimited budget, but we create that million dollar look on the budget available!
Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
Having been in Atlanta since the early 1980s I have seen Atlanta change greatly. Some for the good, some not. I love all the trees and hope they won’t disappear. Flying into Atlanta one really gets a sense for how green our city is compared to so many others. Atlanta has developed a great restaurant scene, something a foodie like me really appreciates. We also have the benefit of great entertainment, not only in the form of great artists and shows coming into town, but wonderful regional theater and performers.
Another thing I like about our city is that we can live so close to all the hot spots and yet feel like we are in the country. I live a few miles from midtown but still have grass and trees and quiet. One of the things I really don’t like is the traffic. Our traffic is some of the worst in the country and as we grow and outgrow we add more traffic to an already overburdened infrastructure.
