Today we’d like to introduce you to Jeffrey LaPread.
So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
Born in Newark, NJ and moved to Atlanta, GA when I was 11. I’ve always wanted to learn how to cut hair. I had a bad experience with getting my hair cut and decided buy my own clippers. Learning to cut my own hair was rough needless to say, but with patience, I finally got it right. When I became comfortable, I asked my family members to cut their hair and the answer was an immediate yes.
It wasn’t my best work so I applied to a barber school. Life happened and I started a family. I dropped out of barber school and worked a regular job and only cut hair as a side hustle. I wasn’t satisfied with working a regular job so I pushed to get better at cutting hair. I watched a lot of youtube videos and worked in a barbershop to become better. I got where I am today because my three kings. They were born very prematurely and to this day fighting like nothing is even happened. I figured if they haven’t given up, then I won’t either. With that said, I’m still learning and getting better every day.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
My major obstacle was building clientele. It was hard working a regular job and trying to meet halfway with peoples schedules. It was providing for my sons when I didn’t have any hair cuts coming in. Also, not having someone to teach me how to cut hair. I literally learned how to cut by watching Youtube videos.
So, as you know, we’re impressed with Iron Cuts Barber Den – tell our readers more, for example, what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
Iron Cuts Barber Den is a 24-hour salon that includes Hair Stylist, Barbers, Lash Technicians, Braiders, Nail Technicians and Facials. No, we are not there 24 hours a day but we are by appointment 24 hours a day and open seven days a week!
So, what’s next? Any big plans?
I plan on opening three barber shops and as my sons become adults, I will give them each a shop.
