

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jenae Harris.
The Hues Company was created in November 2016. Seeing a niche and need for entrepreneurs and consumers of color, a family of business-minded women stepped on the scene to find a solution, and HUES was born.
Robin and her two daughters, Jasmine and Jenae, made a commitment to change the landscape of the beauty, health, and media industries. Through various initiatives, this family run business is changing the face of multiple industries by pioneering entrepreneurship efforts and highlighting diverse excellence within communities of color.
Since its inception, HUES has evolved beyond its flagship endeavor, HuesBox. It is now a full-scale conglomerate connecting people of color in health, beauty, wellness, entrepreneurship, entertainment, and media. Today, HuesMedia, which primarily encompasses entertainment public relations, has served multiple clients including multi-talented Raz B (of B2K), R&B Songstress Nivea, and classic foresome Soul For Real.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Entrepreneurship is never a smooth road, but the hurdles, speedbumps, and detour, make the journey worthwhile. Our flagship endeavor, HuesBox, exploded on the scene and received excellent media coverage, from huge national publications. We were shocked that anyone cared about what we were doing and we worked tirelessly to keep up with a demand we weren’t prepared for. It was a great problem to have!
Our biggest struggle has been coupling the causes we are passionate about with our overall mission, and simultaneously, being mindful of what types of business the industry dictates. We realized the subscription box business model and trend was on the decline, so we knew we had to adjust.
Adjusting has been a process, but such and awesome journey. Not only are we contributing to communities of color, but we get to tie in the interests and skills of each cofounder.
The Hues Company LLC – what should we know? What do you do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
The Hues Company co-founders are a mom and her two daughters. While at times doing business as a family can be challenging, we work best with each other and truly make up a dream team. Between us, we hold ten degrees, and we all hold doctorates in various fields.
The Hues Company conglomerate specializes in the following:
– Subscription Boxes
– Custom Gift Boxes
– Entertainment Public Relations
– Live Marketing Events (pop up shops, celebrity gifting suites, etc.)
– Mental Health inspired body/skincare products
What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
Our proudest moment, thus far, is our feature on CNBC.com. It was the first feature that focused on us as businesswomen as opposed to beauty industry creators.
