Meet Jennifer Hassouna of Blissful Beginnings in Midtown

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jennifer Hassouna.

Jennifer, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
Marriage has always been a special commitment in my eyes. When I was 18 years old, I ran away and got married at a little chapel called the Southside Wedding Chapel on Wamsley Boulevard in Richmond, Virginia. I remember the minister drove up in a beat-up station wagon and he looked not visually appealing because he had on a greasy tee shirt and tennis shoes and he played his own organ and he married us within 5 minutes. That day has been stuck in my mind for the past 13 years. I remember no matter what the minister looked like that day it was still a special day. What made it special was the unification of my husband and myself and it was a beautiful day. And for that, I would be forever thankful. Even though I didn’t have the wedding of my dreams, the commitment was the most important thing of them all. From that day on, I’ve made myself a promise to keep the marriage traditions alive and so I became an ordained minister and marriage counselor. I absolutely love weddings.

Has it been a smooth road?
It has not been a smooth road. I have been met with opposition because of race, religious preference, gender, hair style as well as other matters. Gaining the trust of individuals is very hard, especially when it comes down to one of the most important days of their lives. But you can overcome the challenges by just being patient with individuals and showing them that you care.

Blissful Beginnings is a company that does just what the title says and just what my website says www.blissbeginshere.com. I make it possible for individuals to fulfill their wedding dreams through wedding officiation and counseling. Happiness starts in the heart. What sets me apart from others is my sense of humor, my compassion for others and yet my understanding of broad range of situations.

Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
Atlanta is so diverse. I love Atlanta because everywhere you turn feels like another country. You can go one mile and it will feel like you are in another world. All cultures and walks of like together. The least that I like about Atlanta is all the different little as far as the city and county structures and it takes some getting used to.
