Today we’d like to introduce you to Jennifer Morgan.
Jennifer, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
After spending my 20’s working as a journalist for CNN and NBC News, I stopped working to raise my four children. As a stay-at-home, I was frustrated because I could never get anything done at home! I would gather all of my mail, bills, camp forms, school forms, and go to coffee shops and libraries to try and work, frustrated by the crowds and terrible Wi Fi. I realized that I wasn’t alone. Not only did other moms not have a place of their own to work, but Atlanta women didn’t have many places that offered that unique female community gathering place – somewhere to connect, collaborate, and inspire one another. So in the fall of 2019, I opened Eleanor’s Place! It was inspired by my childhood role model, Eleanor Roosevelt, who, like other incredible women before me, helped pave the way for women today.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
It’s been an interesting road for sure! Not having worked for 13 years, it was a humbling and frightening experience going back into the work field. The learning curve was steep, but I was excited for the challenge and relished being able to use my “working brain” again for what felt like years. Balancing the home life with work is hands down the hardest challenge. Everyone warned me, but I wasn’t prepared for how tricky it can be. You want to be all things to all people, but something has to give every now and then, and you have to be ok with that.
Eleanor’s Place – what should we know? What do you do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
Eleanor’s Place is a private all-women co-working space. It’s very specifically designed with busy women in mind – soothing and beautiful decor, amazing coffee and snacks, comfortable working nooks, private offices to help you really focus when you need to, and a beauty area to “spruce up” before you head back out into the world. Our members have access to all of this, along with educational and social events we offer, some of which are open to the public as well. I’m most proud of the community of members we’ve curated at this point. To watch these women who didn’t know each other beforehand share their stories, work together, laugh and vent means so much to me. I’ve met more incredible women through this process than I ever imagined!
What is “success” or “successful” for you?
Success to me is finding happiness within yourself with the life you’ve created – the good, the bad and the ugly. It’s going to bed at night knowing I just did the absolute best I can, gave something back, and took care of myself and those I love.
