Meet Jennifer Pessima

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jennifer Pessima.

Jennifer, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I am the Founder of Jennifer Pessima Production Company! As a little girl, I always had a heart to write! I would write poetry, creative stories, and even heartfelt cards to loved ones, writing was just what I loved to do!

I believe that was always my gift, but when you’re growing up, it’s hard to match your gift with your passion. So just like any other entrepreneur I tried a lot of different things to see what made me excited about waking up every morning!

Once I graduated from Suitland High  school in Maryland I knew I wanted to move to Atlanta, so I applied to Clark Atlanta University and I got in. It was there that I took a scriptwriting class. It was there that I realized I was dreaming too small. I never dreamt about creating my own shows or movies, until then.

So once I realized that’s what I wanted to do, work in the television industry I started to volunteer and intern with whoever would let me. One place I started volunteering that jumpstarted my career was at World Changers Church International with Dr. Creflo Dollar. I would show up everyday to help in any area that they needed help in and once I graduated they presented me with a job.

I was an apprentice for about three months and then I became a producer. That’s truly unheard of to become a TV producer directly out of college. I made commercials, segments, documentaries, vignettes, and much more but I knew I wanted to do more. So I would constantly write down what I saw myself doing, who I saw myself becoming. It’s power in writing it down, and visualizing where you want God to take you!

One day I wrote down I will produce talk shows, and the next thing you know I look up and I’m getting an email to be one of the lead producers for Dr. Dollar new talk show “Your World With Creflo”! I was so excited! The last past three years I was working to help find individuals who were stuck and needed help finding their way out. Topics stemmed anywhere from a man who not only forgave but also adopted the killer of his son (I know so powerful) to Two Chainz coming on talking about his relationship with God.

Although I was grateful for my position, I always know it’s another level! I always know with God there is more! So I remembered why I started. I wanted to create my own shows and films. So in January of 2018 that’s what I did! I started my company and I reached out to investors who believed in my vision. I brought together a team filled with hard workers and we started working hard.

Our first project is BBW (Big Beautiful Women) where our main character Torre shows the inside of her life being bold and confident in her skin as a bigger woman. This show is writing, directed, and produced by me but it’s because of my team that we are getting it done. Without them, it would have been just a dream. Rhena took on the role as my co-producer handling all business related information. Dean believed in my vision enough to invest and become the executive producer. Jon became my eyes literally as my director of photography. Keith was my gaffer, handling all lighting. Brenda became my set designer, location scouter, and more. The cast have been amazing and we have countless of volunteers. I say all that to say, I could not have done any of this without my team.

We have our pilot premiere March 30th in Atlanta at Midtown Landmark Theater and we are pitching it this February to so many different networks that asked to review it.

As Oprah said, “The show will do great, and if not I will do great!”

Has it been a smooth road?
I don’t believe in a great story without struggles!

When I was 15, I lost my mom, and at 18 I lost my dad. I made a vow to them, and myself as long as I’m breathing I’ll live life for them.

So that means whatever goes wrong in my life I have to figure it out, pray and receive.

Starting my company, we had trouble finding investors, and a committed team in the beginning! I don’t focus on the problem for too long because that’s what grows, I learned to just focus on the solution.

Once we got over those bumps, we were able to move without stopping!

Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
I love how we support each other, we come together to help each other build. It’s so many entrepreneurs here and that’s a beautiful thing to witness everyone going after a dream.

Of course, the traffic has to be my least favorite. 😂
