Today we’d like to introduce you to Jenny Mac.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Jenny. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
My playing started in 3rd grade; going to orchestra class got me out of choir class. This was my main priority for going into instrument study. The interest kept growing into college. I studied music at Belmont University and Middle TN State University. From there I was a member of the Middle TN Symphony and then I was accepted into the Nashville Philharmonic. My love for other genres grew and collaborated with many artists in those fields. I studied Bluegrass, Klezmer, and Rock Violin. Those labors paid off as I recorded with the band YES!
Needless to say, my personality, that is larger than life, worked into my performance. I had other colleagues asking me to play with them for weddings. That nitch grew very fast. I was being requested all over Nashville for weddings and events. When I moved to GA, it took a little bit to get the word out that my services were available. Now that it is Moonlighting Violinist is growing in popularity in Atlanta. I have had the honor to perform in some of the finest venues Atlanta has to offer as well as donating my services to non-organizations for a good cause. This has returned my awards won as 2015 and 2016 Best of Thumbtack. 2016 Best of Gwinnett, and 2017 Best of Gwinnett nominee.
I am looking forward to playing for more clients in the future. Atlanta has a wonderfully diverse population that keeps my musical skill set tone. I love the challenges and pleasures that many events bring. The southern elegance and charm of Atlanta are second to none.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Moonlighting Violinist has its own challenges but nothing extraordinary than other small businesses have not seen. Getting any entrepreneurial business off the ground is hard. Business owners work to get the publicity, maintenance of websites, social media, etc… everything is a constant wheel. For me, in particular, it seems public relations is easy; websites, legalities, business taxes are all my weakness. I’m thankful for professionals in this field to keep me straight.
We’d love to hear more about your business.
Moonlighting Violinist is known for solo violin performances for any event; weddings, social gatherings, chamber meetings, debutante balls, business grand openings, special church performances and any event that would lend to the elegance of string music. I am most proud of the awards that I have received. These show off the hard work of persistence.
What sets me apart from other performers in my category would be that since I do work solo it does become more budget friendly. I give the dignified ambiance a client would like without the price of a full ensemble. In addition, if the client would like to change things or have special requests these become more easily rectified as a solo artist. I can arrange for duets and trios to satisfy the event, however, planning an event can be stressful; your musician shouldn’t be one of them.
What were you like growing up?
Hindsight is always 20/20. I now see that when I was growing up I was very independent. I beat my own drum. Jenny Mac was driving the train of Jenny Mac. My personality was very large, always the comedian. I was always, and still, making everything upbeat and happy. I just don’t see any need for seriousness; it has a time and place which is not much of a large percentage of my life.
My interests were struggling between music and science; it still is. Along with music, I also studied technology with a specialty in healthcare. My parents raised me to think if I wanted something then I have to go and get it, so I did.
