Today we’d like to introduce you to Jermel Wilson.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I started my acting career while I was in High School in my Senior Year. I was a smart kid but making a lot of dumb decisions. When I moved to queens and I transferred to August Martin it was like a fresh start but I still was taking dumb chances. Luckily my guidance counselor Ms. Vickie Klein saw that I had an interest in acting and she switched my curriculum to mass communications and drama. Her being an actress herself she saw my potential. 24 years later I’m still here
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Sometimes it’s a lonely road to success, I lost friends, faced depression, being unemployed and let’s not talk about being rejected a million times before you get your first yes. You got to be in it to win it stay strong and stay consistent. You have to always train to keep your skills sharp. Also, don’t be afraid to surround yourself with like-minded individuals and don’t be afraid to let go of the negative ones. Everyone can’t go.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I’m an actor, stunt performer, stand-up comic, rapper, song and screenwriter. The thing I’m most proud of is being a part of a Multi Emmy nominated Series Bronx SIU, The new exciting film Chaaw which is the late greats Biz Markie and Tracy Braxton. I’m super excited to be a part the Moesha and Parkers Spin off Kim and Niecy, What sets me apart from others is part is my drive, my passion and my never quit attitude. If it’s a job I can’t do in the business I’m dying to learn it.
We’d love to hear about any fond memories you have from when you were growing up?
My favorite childhood memory is watching my favorite cartoons, playing with my toys and video games while my grandma would cook me breakfast. The main important thing I’m missing is my grandma she passed 25 years ago. Also back then no bills 😂😂😂
