Today we’d like to introduce you to Jessica Breaux.
Hi Jessica, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I’ve always been drawn to creativity, the natural world, animals, and the joy of connecting with new and interesting people. For a long time, I didn’t know how these seemingly different passions would ever fit together—or that they would eventually lead me to the deeply fulfilling work I do today.
My journey began in the arts as a vocal performance major at FSU and Shorter College. After a meaningful season immersed in music, I chose to stay home with my two children during their elementary years, a chapter that grounded me and shaped who I am. As time passed, I felt a quiet nudge that it was time to reclaim my own dreams alongside caring for others.
That calling led me to Piney Woods Farm, a nonprofit regenerative organic farm and education center, where everything began to click. I continued my education in handcrafted arts, biology, microscopy, and agriculture through a variety of learning institutions, weaving together curiosity, creativity, and care for the land.
Today, I feel incredibly grateful to stand at the intersection of all my passions—learning, creating, growing, and giving back—while helping nurture both people and community.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
The road to where I am today has definitely not been a smooth one. There have been heartbreaking moments and profound losses along the way. While I would never wish to repeat those devastating experiences, I am deeply grateful for the lessons they carried.
I’ve learned that even the darkest seasons do pass, that compassion and understanding for others can grow from our own pain, and that we are often far stronger than we ever give ourselves credit for.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
My work is pretty diverse, and honestly, that’s one of the things I love most about it. Piney Woods Farm is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit regenerative farm and education center, so my days can look very different from one to the next. One day I might be teaching a composting class, working with the honeybees, another day we’re making natural, chemical-free soap, and another day I’m in the kitchen cooking food straight from the farm to support everyday health.
At a time when so many people are feeling overwhelmed—physically and mentally—I’m proud that Piney Woods Farm can be a place where people slow down, learn by doing, and reconnect with nature and healthy living. And at the heart of it all is community care: we’ve donated over 10,000 pounds of regenerative organic produce to people facing food insecurity across Georgia.
What’s next?
We’re always growing and evolving at Piney Woods Farm. This coming year, our focus is really on overall well-being—for both the land and the people who care for it. We’re using our bio-complete soil practices to grow the most nutrient-dense produce we can, which we donate and sell to our community to support long-term health and vitality.
Alongside that, we’re leaning into craft therapy, regenerative farm learning, youth programs, and cooking and preserving—not just to teach skills, but to help people reconnect with one another and rediscover ways of living and learning that have too often been forgotten.
