Today we’d like to introduce you to Jessica Cox.
So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
It all started in the 60s. I know, I know I don’t look that old and it’s because I wasn’t even born yet! It started in the 60s in Rio Abajo, Panama with my great Aunt Izzy. Aunty Izzy was a well-known and highly respected home baker. Her specialties were 10cent sugar cookies and $20 Quinceanera (sweet 16) barbie cakes. She raised her family by selling baked goods from her kitchen.
Sadly, she passed away before I discovered my passion for baking. My grandmother gave me one for her recipe books and it is the blue print for my recipes.
From a young age, I was baking desserts for family and friends, experimenting really and making a complete mess in mommy’s kitchen lol. A simple hobby so I thought. Through the years, my passion developed into more than a simple hobby and after a full year of recipe tasting and sampling, The Queen of Sweets Desserts opened as an online-based and delivery-only bakery in 2012.
A bakery with the mission of baking the finest and most delicious desserts to the highest gourmet standards. The Queen of Sweets originated in South Florida and this year I decided to move my sweet talents to Georgia. Atlanta to be specific, the city of endless opportunities. My goal is to open multiple bakeries and the first one will open in Atlanta.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I am a self-taught baker. There has been trial and error, A LOT of trials and errors! The biggest challenge is not eating everything I bake! LOL it all just smells so good!!! You try overcoming the challenge of not eating freshly baked cookies right out of the oven!
To be honest, there will always be challenges in business, and there aren’t many easy paths when it comes to baking. I’m passionate about my craft so the challenges are sweet lessons to me. I love baking. I love making other people happy with my desserts, and that itself is greater than all the challenges.

Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
My favorite memory from childhood is waking up in the middle of the night to steal a piece of cake from the kitchen. I had to cut thin slices so my parents wouldn’t notice that there was a cake bandit in the family. I never got caught….. which might explains my great cake cutting skills. Another great childhood memory was fighting with my brother and sister to lick the cake bowl, it was a royal rumble every time!
