Today we’d like to introduce you to Jessica Hunt.
Jessica, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I photographed my first wedding as a high school intern for a professional photographer, and the beginning of 2018 will complete my third year as a full-time wedding photographer. The seven years in between both of these events have been a whirlwind of finishing high school (yep, I started shooting weddings at 16!), earning my B.A. in Studio Art from Columbia College in three years, and launching my business.
I was not completely set on being a wedding photographer as my full-time career until the spring of 2012, and after I made the decision that I wanted to chase the dream, I left a full ride to small college in Greenville, South Carolina and transferred to Columbia College in hopes of earning an art degree. I began working on my own under the name of Jessica Hunt Photography for a few clients here and there, but not in any official capacity as I was busy earning my degree and working as a bartender.
Once I earned my degree in 2014, I took some time off and launched Jessica Hunt Photography, LLC in January of 2015. Normally, here, you’d write, “and the rest they say is history!”, but I’ll refrain from that because the past three years have been the most challenging, yet rewarding, of my life. Now as I prepare to head into my fourth year full time, I am excited to be serving 20 to 25 couples every year for their wedding experiences across the United States!
Has it been a smooth road?
As a business owner with a few years under my belt, I’ve definitely faced my fair share of struggles. I could tell you about the day I came home to my home office broken into and my only working computer for my business stolen. I could tell you about the day(s) my business was attacked constantly by an online white supremacy hate group for supporting people of color and the Black Lives Matter movement. I could tell you about the time I made mistake at a shoot and had to humble myself and offer another reshoot for free. Honestly, I could tell you about so many struggles and small bumps in my path, but instead, I’d like to offer the idea that nothing worth wanting is ever easy to attain. These struggles made me a better business owner, a better photographer, and a better woman; I wouldn’t trade them for anything!
So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Jessica Hunt Photography story. Tell us more about the business.
I am a wedding photographer based out of Columbia, South Carolina that serves couples throughout their wedding experience all across the United States. I specialize in telling love stories and photographing couples. That covers engagement portraits to coverage on the wedding day to anniversary photos and anything in between. I have been photographing weddings professionally across for 7 years, and it’s one of my favorite things to do!
My work has been published in both print and online publications over 100 times throughout the past two years. Jessica Hunt Photography has been named among the best wedding photographers in Columbia for 2016 and 2017 by Expertise.com, and I have a passion for enriching the photography community by building real relationships with other business owners and pushing those peers to enhance every portion of their businesses.
Jessica Hunt Photography currently serves couples throughout the United States and is available for worldwide wedding coverage while specializing in naturally-lit, fine art portrait work and photographing classy, head-over-heels-in-love couples!
Jessica Hunt Photography serves same-sex, LGTBQ+, and heterosexual couples. I believe that each love story deserves beautiful images. I joyfully celebrate partnerships of any and all genders, and I love documenting ceremonies, elopements, and other love parties inspired by all backgrounds, religious traditions (or lack/combination thereof), countries, and cultures!
I believe that wedding photography is one of the most important parts of a wedding day, it’s more than just images. It is your memories and love frozen in time; saved for you to go back to and feel all of those feelings again. The photography of a wedding day leads the day to unfold, and I work hard to plan ahead of time to make your wedding day flawless by creating a customized timeline for you and your wedding party to follow.
As one of my couples, you receive access to a private client lounge that will educate and walk you through every step of the wedding photography process. This site is only for my brides and grooms and is JAM packed full of every little thing you need to consider while planning both your wedding photography me and your wedding day. Things like an extensive list of premier wedding vendors and example timelines are just a few things I’ve put together to help my couples plan for and create the most stress-free and beautiful wedding day possible.
CREATING TIMELESS IMAGES UNIQUE TO YOUR LOVE STORY MEANS MORE TO ME THAN ANYTHING ELSE AS A PHOTOGRAPHER.
How do you think the industry will change over the next decade?
The wedding industry is constantly changing based on trends in fashion, the bridal market, social issues, and many more things. Every year we see a few things emerging that new and unique! I do hope to see a change in the industry to move towards more inclusive offerings for couples and less focus on the bride-centric culture of weddings. I also think bold colors, unique gowns, and influences from past decades are going to be emerging in the industry.
