Meet Jessica Tehlirian

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jessica Tehlirian.

Jessica Tehlirian was born and raised in Detroit, Michigan. She is a graduate of The University of Michigan, Florida State University College of Law and Florida State University College of Business. While at Florida State University College of Law, Jessica spent a semester studying at The University of Oxford in Oxford, England. When Jessica was younger, she intended to go to medical school and kept thinking she was going to become a doctor until the summer before she graduated from college. It was that year that she decided she would make the leap and switch her major and her career choice to wanting to become a lawyer. She quickly signed up and took the LSAT and the rest is history.

Has it been a smooth road?
Jessica’s path has not been an easy one. One of the biggest issues she was faced with was losing her brother to gun violence just days after becoming an attorney. It was then that she decided that she wanted to become a prosecutor to be able to fight for the victims like her brother. Unfortunately, the person/persons who were responsible for his death were never caught and in fact, she was never even contacted by law enforcement with any leads or arrests. Beyond that, she has been faced with uncertainty both in making it into the profession and once there with the direction of her career. Now that her career is more firmly rooted, she uses her experiences to mentor a significant amount of young women, most of whom are law students.

So let’s switch gears a bit and go into The Cochran Firm story.
While in law school, Jessica received the Distinguished Pro Bono Service Award for completion of over 150 pro bono hours, was awarded a Book Award and was on the Dean’s List and Honor Roll multiple semesters. At her immediate past job, she worked as a felony prosecutor in the Office of the State Attorney in the 2nd Judicial Circuit, where she had around 20 criminal trials, with the majority of the cases being jury trials. Before being admitted to the Bar, Jessica worked as a Certified Legal Intern in the Office of the State Attorney in the 2nd Judicial Circuit. Jessica worked on both misdemeanor and felony cases in the juvenile division. Jessica successfully tried cases ranging from driving while license suspended to rape and murder.

She is currently an attorney and the head of the litigation department in her office. Since transitioning to The Cochran Firm Jacksonville office, Jessica focuses her practice on personal injury and fights for those who have been injured by the negligence of others. Jessica now uses her strong work ethic, competitive nature, and significant trial experience/knowledge obtained from representing the State of Florida to achieve the best results for her clients. What sets her apart is the amount of customer service she gives to each client. All of her clients have her cell phone number and can contact her when they need her. She takes care in ensuring all of her cases are adequately handled. She obtains a lot of referrals from past clients and she thinks this is the best proof of a job well done!

How do you think the industry will change over the next decade?
One major trend she can see in the legal field is the shift to the focus on using social media to market. She gets the majority of her clients through social media referrals and she has been doing so for quite some time. A lot of people in the industry are still only using the traditional methods of getting clients and not taking advantage of social media. Social media is a great place for clients to connect with you on a more personal level and see more of what you are doing both for your current clients but the community as a whole. She was formally the National Social Media Manager for The Cochran Firm and she has even traveled out of the country to present to The National Bar Association on how to obtain clients through the use of social media. The best thing about social media marketing for lawyers is that you do not have to spend tens of thousands of dollars to be able to generate clients. She has only ever spent around $500 and has generated a large number of clients through the use of her various social media platforms.
