Today we’d like to introduce you to Jewel Freeman.
Jewel, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I am a woman who loves all things beauty, empowerment, and singing! Growing up, I always enjoyed playing dress up and I still enjoy it today. I’ll wear my natural hair, curly wigs, straight wigs, short wigs, etc. I’ve had every color and style in the book. Everyday is a runway for me and my signature is that I dress to where I’m going. I have always been a creative and even as a young girl, I remember writing and journaling about my dreams and passions. The name True Beauty Jewels comes from my passion to see myself prosper and thrive into the woman I’ve always dreamt of. Doing so, I also love to see other women thrive and I wanted a brand where I could show and express all of who I am. I am a recording artist, makeup artist, wig specialist, beauty guru, YouTuber, model, stylist, and speaker. I am the woman I am today because I saw my true beauty even in my scars and pain and now, I enjoy sharing my story with others around the world.
Has it been a smooth road?
Along the way, I have struggled with being a woman that serves into other people to the point where I’ve put myself on the back burner. Also financially, I wasn’t always in a place where I felt comfortable enough to really hone in on my business, dreams, passions, and goals. One thing I’ve learned through these struggles is that being an entrepreneur, I had to have faith and take risks. If I had never taken a risk, I would’ve never been able to live in the fullness of what God has for me. God doesn’t give us gifts and talents for no reason. He doesn’t give us gifts that will cause us to fail, stumble, and struggle. I’m a firm believer that if I work hard and expect to be prosperous in anything in life, I will reap those results. Truly a road of struggles can be turned into a victorious destination.
So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the True Beauty Jewels story. Tell us more about the business.
True Beauty Jewels is a one-stop-shop business. I have truly been blessed with multiple talents! True Beauty Jewels offers many different services such as: musical performances, motivational speaking, makeup artistry, custom wigs, brand marketing, modeling, and styling. In the brainstorming process, I shared with my team that I wanted a company name that describes all of me and that’s where the name True Beauty Jewels came from. It all started with having a love for music/singing and fashion. Then that love turned into a love for beauty and makeup. In loving to create my own trends, I was wearing lots of color and doing different styles with my hair which turned into learning how to make wigs simply to save money. I never thought I’d turn those passions into a business. I am known for loving beauty all while not using it as a crutch. I believe that everyone is beautiful in their own way and I do not believe that women need additives to be and feel beautiful. When you are Touched By Jewel, it’s simply a beauty enhancement to enhance the beauty that is already present. Additives like makeup and lace frontals are gorgeous, however, they aren’t the only source of beauty that women carry. I believe that the confidence, power, and ambition of a woman radiates and defines her true beauty. I am most proud that I was able to make a name for myself even though most of what I do is oversaturated. I use the over-saturation to my advantage and I am not afraid to reach out to other entrepreneurs, especially black entrepreneurs, for tips and/or wisdom. What sets my business apart is that it’s so broad.
In life, it’s not often that we meet a jack of all trades and a master of all, so I am taking my gifts and passions to do what once looked and seemed impossible.
How do you think the industry will change over the next decade?
The two major industries I operate in are the beauty industry and the music industry. In the next 5-10 years, I see the beauty industry continuing to be over-saturated. I also think people will either go for a very minimal aesthetic or an eccentric and artistic aesthetic. Minimalists will most likely go for the no makeup, makeup look and have a less is more sense of style. Your girl next door will probably wear little to no makeup with her hair not all the way in place, all while still looking groomed. The individuals on the more eccentric side of the spectrum will tell more of a story with their make up and style. I can see individuals wearing blown out blush that blends into their eyebrows and hairlines or very graphic eyeliner. High fashion beauty I think could be more normalized. In the next 5-10 years, I see more underground and/or independent artists in the music industry. I think now people love mainstream music, however, they have a sense of appreciation for raw and real artists. There are certain artists where you can feel their emotions as you hear the first strum of the guitar. Then, once they start singing or rapping, you almost envision being in their shoes. I even believe people will start bringing back that true soulful sound. When it comes to performing, I think artists will get more creative with their sets. We may think we’ve seen it all, however, we just never know what entertainers have cooking up. I wouldn’t be surprised if I saw an acrobatic stunt or a circus-themed act in a musical performance. Overall, I see the music industry evolving beautifully.
