Hi Jhamese, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I started Muffin & Co., LLC originally wanting to start a clothing and cosmetic line. My first product was my vegan lip gloss. I started working on this product back in 2017 in my bestfriend at the time’s kitchen which was a fail lol. I wanted a lip gloss that was highly moisturizing, not sticky, and helped fade hyperpigmentation. I wanted the consistency to be gloss not a chapstick and when I first started working on the product, it kept turning out like chapstick. So I went back to the drawing board and did some further research to create the consistency I wanted. When I figured that part out, I did further research to formulate the lip gloss to have the benefits I stated before. Attending aesthetics school during this time actually helped the most during this process. I learned so much about the skin, what it needed to function properly, and what ingredients helped with certain skin concerns. I found out which Ingredients I would need the lipgloss to have in order to keep the lips moisturized, ensure the lip gloss wasn’t sticky, and ingredients that helped with fading hyperpigmentation. Of course, the lip gloss formulation I have now took plenty of trial and error to perfect but it’s now everything I imagined it to be!
That was the official start to what is now Caution All vegan Skincare! After doing all the research on ingredients and how they benefited the skin, I decided to create a skincare line to assist with not just your lips but your face and body as well. CAV Skincare is a developing skincare line that I have created over the 2 years of having my aesthetics business and continues to grow everyday.
Once I finished school, I decided opening my own spa would be the best option for me because I did not see a lot of estheticians who focused on using natural products to treat their client’s skin. They usually use products that are well-known in the industry and that’s not the route I wanted to take. I found my first suit that was reasonably priced being a new aesthetician and had enough space to perform my skin treatments. I knew already my spa would be named Muffin & Co. Aesthetics and I wanted to perform facial treatments and body waxing. I am now in my second spa suit that has my lab to create products for CAV Skincare and my treatment room where I perform all skin services.
I’m extremely blessed to be able to share my skills and knowledge with others so that they can reach their skin goals while ensuring their health stays in tact by using products with vegan ingredients.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Some of the struggles for me, starting a new business, was building my clientele and growing brand awareness. I started my business with no business background. I came from the medical field as a CNA so I had caring for clients down pack and amazing customer service but building my business especially my back office was a challenge. I’m also not from Huntsville I’m from Chicago so I started off not knowing anyone and had to really grow my clientele organically.

Muffin & Co., LLC is a vegan skincare company. I specialize in corrective skincare treatments that are performed in the spa. These treatments include facials and full-body waxing. During my services, I use my skincare line Caution ALl Vegan skincare and the wax I use during wax treatments are also vegan. My mission is to assist others with creating and maintaining a healthy skincare routine so they can reach their skin goals and feel confident in their own skin. Can you talk to us about how you think about risk?
You have to take risks in life. If you don’t you’ll hold yourself back. I use to be scared to take risks and being truthful I still am but I know I have to. Taking risks is like continuing to grow. You figure out what works and what doesn’t work. Taking a risk can put you exactly where you need to be and if you never take it, you’ll be stuck in the same place trying to figure it out. I remember I took the risk of quitting my job in Chicago with my five years old and moving here to Huntsville. I didn’t know what I was going to do job-wise, financial wise. I stayed with my sister temporarily until I found us a place but it was such a big change for me. Eventually, I got a job at the hospital, and I was able to move into my first apartment! Moving to Huntsville also opened up the opportunity to start my business. None of that would’ve happened if I never took the risk of moving here.
