Meet Jimmie Brown of Brownstone Custom Cabinetry in Powder Springs

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jimmie Brown.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Jimmie. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
“Find something that you enjoy doing, do it, and do it well.”

That is the quintessential philosophy behind the creation of Brownstone Custom Cabinetry. Starting as a hobby, woodworking quickly became a passion. I entered an apprenticeship in 2008 and in 2010 set up a shop. I found the need for me on apprentices in 2012 and have since trained three individuals as my assistants. One has gone one to establish his own enterprise.

When you are able to visualize an idea, put it on paper and build it with your hands it provides a sincere sense of accomplishment. When you are able to dig into someone else mind, pull out their dream, and make that a real object then it borders on magic.

Has it been a smooth road?
Finding profitability has been the major struggle of my business, I never lacked for work, never had a problem finding customers who wanted custom cabinetry, whether that was in the form of built-ins, furniture, or kitchen cabinets. The challenge was finding a product line that I could produce with the turnover that allowed it to be both affordable and profitable. Architectural furniture (built-ins, kitchen cabinets) ended up being the right niche for me.

So, as you know, we’re impressed with Brownstone Custom Cabinetry – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
Brownstone Custom Cabinetry takes woodworking seriously…it’s our passion. We cater to each customer’s specific needs. Taking the time to decipher the root cause of the client’s request and fulfilling that desire coupled with our uncompromising quality is what sets us apart. Creating a brand that our customers can trust and rely upon is our upmost priority. All pieces are hand-crafted, hand-sanded, and hand-finished to ensure a heightened standard of craftsmanship.

We recently added IKEA installations into our service arsenal. For those individuals who want to economize on construction but are uncompromising on the installation, fit and finish this is a good option.

In the end, being able to read the customers desires, even if they do not easily describe them, is what we are most proud of. If you have a dream, a cocktail napkin, and a crayon, we can make you a beautiful reality.

Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
What I like best about our city is the tremendous diversity. We have seemed to have figured it out. Atlanta is truly a melting pot. We live together, work together, and for the most part, get along. There is no need for a Chinatown, or Little Havana in Atlanta. If you are in Decatur, Suwanee, Marietta, or Hosea L Williams Dr and want a change of pace (say Thai food vs BBQ) you don’t have to go across town; just go across the street.

The bad part about Atlanta is the traffic. Everybody thinks they are Dale Earnhardt Jr.
