Today we’d like to introduce you to JNote Jackson.
JNote, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
Man, first of all, I have to give glory to God without Him, the rest of what I’m about to tell might not make much sense. Summer 2004, my cousin showed me Fruity Loops. I fell in love with the program because, at that point in my life, I had been playing piano for about five years, and I realized I could take control of sounds myself, & make my own music. Once I went back to high school for my sophomore year, I started making beats heavy. Like most producers, I was a rapper in a group at first called DemLiveBoyz, and we created an album that had a song adopted as the school theme song. All that love showed me I might have a future in music, which ultimately led me to attend North Carolina A&T State University in 2007 and to major in music.
I don’t think I have enough time to explain all of A&T, but what I can say is without college, I would’ve never had the opportunity to meet people who would change my life for the better. Plus, the HBCU experience is one like no other. At A&T, I had a production team called District 9 with a bunch of artists from the school, and through those guys, I learned so much about being a producer rather than just a “beat maker” you know? One artist I had named The Golden Lord got discovered by this artist/engineer in Los Angeles who suggested I enroll in the Los Angeles Recording School.
Learning how to engineer ultimately led me to being in rooms with people like Kevin McCall, Problem, Mike&Keys, and Nipsey. Eventually, an artist named Ayobami found me and my music. He was here in Atlanta, heard my music, and offered me an opportunity to not only work with him, but with the music greats in his circle.
Atlanta has been great to me and already changed my life in so many ways. A big shift came when I attended an iLLMiND “Pass The Aux” session, where I met my brother Scrilla Fulcanelli! He’s energized my music 1000 fold, and together with a third producer named Jxmmy Official, we created a producer group called The Saviours. You’ll hear the tag this year.
But now I’m currently working with an artist named Lil Mouse. Be on the lookout for him. He was famous when he was 13 for bringing the Chicago drill scene to national attention. He’s been reference by Drake, Lil Wayne, and Meek Mill. And now I’ve been blessed to be apart of the team that’s reintroducing him back to the world.
None of this would’ve been possible without the support of my family and mostly my parents—nothing like supporting a kid’s dreams. I want to give a shoutout to Long Reach HS, NC A&T, Los Angeles Recording School, for believing in me too!
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
It has not been the smoothest ride, but it’s been fun. The biggest struggle I came across was figuring out that quote “It’s Not What you know it’s…” and the vice versa of that quote. It’s not about who you know nor what you know; it’s who knows you. Who knows your real value and what you bring to the table. That’s how you become useful and well known in the music industry I’m realizing.
Please tell us about your work.
I’m a music producer/sound engineer, and I’m known for my piano skills and melodies/samples I create. What sets me apart from others is I’m extremely empathetic. For example, When it comes to tailoring making beats, I can match any mood/genre/style you’re looking for.
So, what’s next? Any big plans?
All I gotta say is follow @tdgmouse, and you’ll see the come up. That kid is going to shake up the music industry (again).
Oh also follow @ayobamiflair on IG too. We have some timeless masterpieces coming. God bless y’all.
