Today we’d like to introduce you to John Benthal.
Thanks for sharing your story with us John. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I was inspired by the Arts and Crafts movement while I lived in Chicago and developed a passion for Mission style furniture. Over the years I aligned myself with today’s craftsman and artisans that also have the same interest. When I moved to Atlanta in 2001, I filled a void by opening my own store called The Mission Motif. Over the years I have had 3 different locations.
Has it been a smooth road?
Nothing is ever smooth in business. There have been lots of mistakes, and there is definitely a learning curve with find out who is a good vendor and who is not. However, I always manage to weed out the bad and focus on the good.
So let’s switch gears a bit and go into The Mission Motif story. Tell us more about the business.
The Mission Motif is boutique custom furniture store that focuses on today’s Arts & Crafts style. (Also know as Craftsman Style or Mission Style). We sell hardwood furniture in different species of wood and stain. We also sell custom lighting, rugs, and other accents that are inspired by this movement.
What sets us apart from your average furniture store is that we offer true customization and w offer a high level of customer service before, during, and after a sale. I’m very proud of the friends and relationships I have made along the way.
How do you think the industry will change over the next decade?
I do see more sales happening out of state. It’s amazing how we can reach more people across the county with the web and phone combination. People are getting more comfortable buying expensive items without seeing them first if you have a good online reputation.
