Meet John Dewberry of Dewuproductions in Birmingham

Today we’d like to introduce you to John Dewberry.

Thanks for sharing your story with us John. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I came up with dewuproductions when I was 18. I have loved music since I was a little child but it became my passion when my mom bought me my first trombone when I was ten. That same trombone allowed me to study and perform in numerous ensembles such as marching band, jazz band, symphony band, etc. through college. That is where I learned how to make instrumental music and fell in love with it. I put down the trombone and picked up a keyboard and computer and dewuproductions was born and has since developed into something much more than music.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It has not been smooth at all. After college, I lost my free access to all of that expensive software and equipment. That stuff is not cheap and trying to purchase all of the necessary equipment on my own has been tough. Also finding time to do what you love while providing for yourself can be difficult and very frustrating. However, there are a lot of things that come easy, but not necessarily worth it. Anything worth having you have to work hard for it. Don’t ever expect it easy.

Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Dewuproductions – what should we know?
Dewuproductions allows creatives to do just that – create. That includes music, videos, podcasts, etc. Currently, all of the music production is created by myself. There are also 2 game shows that I created with my homies. There will be many more different types of creativity in the near future, but presently, the main highlight is the podcast “The Architects.” Three of my friends and I discuss music, sports, trending topics and such, but we have made it our mission to always provide a Godly perspective vs. the worldly perspective, which is the common thing to do. The goal of dewuproductions is for creatives to own their craft and do it the way they want to (hence, dewuproductions).

Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
I would say two things. The first thing is to do what you love. Like I said before, one has to understand that success is not an uphill journey, there will be a terrible amount of bad days but if you’re doing something you love, those bad days are a lot easier and you learn to accept them as a part of the process. The second and most important thing is God. Understand that life is all about spiritual warfare. There will be attacks from every angle, but guess what? God told us to consider it joy when trials occur because it produces perseverance. And we know the battle is won already so when attacks occur, we get encouraged instead of discouraged. God is the only reason I have made it this far. My confidence is in him.
