Today we’d like to introduce you to John Felak.
So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
A 30 year resident of North Augusta, I had a career in the Parks and Recreation field, serving others and managing properties and facilities. Managing an Inn was an easy transition that provides me an opportunity to meet many people and share my love of our community with our guests.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
It has been a smooth transition, but constant attention to detail and building the business of the future. The calls I am making today are the reservations for next year. The biggest struggle remains answering the question “Am I doing enough today to build the business and improve our facility for the guests of tomorrow?”
Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Lookaway Inn – what should we know?
Our company focuses on just our property. We have been the icon of our community for many years and want to share the home with as many guests as possible. No one should ever “wish” the could come to the house. Our doors are always open for events, stays, questions and tours.
Lookaway Inn was built by one of the founders of our city, constructed in 1898. It was a private residence until 1992 when it was converted to an Inn and has remained a beautiful property.
Any shoutouts? Who else deserves credit in this story – who has played a meaningful role?
Former owners Diana and Kelly Combs discussed this opportunity with my wife Mary and I in great detail. They were the previous owners and provided us the contacts to interview and receive an offer from the current owner.
