Today we’d like to introduce you to John Gomez.
Hi John, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
We met in 2019 and got married in 2022. We bought a house in Acworth the same year, but have always worked in separate fields. Trish was a Nail Technician with over 10 years experience and worked in Sales. In late 2024, an opportunity to purchase a nearby nail salon presented itself. We saw this as a great opportunity to spend more time together, gain financial independence and improve our quality of life.
Miracle Nail Salon started operations in January 2025 and we have been successful in improving the store’s overall appeal/appearance, increasing a social media and online presence, maintaining the existing client base and growing the business to service new customers! While our venture into entrepreneurship is still young, we have hopes of growing operations to multiple locations in the future.
Our team is experienced and can provide pedicures, manicures, nail enhancements and face/body wax. We have options in all price ranges from basic (classic) services to intricate nail design and indulging spa-like experiences. Our facility is clean, friendly, inviting and relaxing.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Taking over an existing business came with most of the challenges we expected.
The first couple months were spent improving the store. There was a visible lack of maintenance by the previous owner, so the first thing we did was give the entire place a deep clean. We repainted walls, rearranged/replaced furniture and created better storage solutions for supplies and a better “feel” for customers. Lighting and fixtures were updated to make the space more modern, bright and energy efficient.
Some other improvements were also needed. New locks, a new security system, HVAC repair, Smart Thermostat, improved plumbing/electrical, etc. We considered these things mandatory and were able to do a majority of the work ourselves.
The previous owner’s prices were also out of date, so we knew there would be a slight pushback when we raised them (10%) to a level consistent with the industry standard, We strategically waited to do this after a few months of ownership in order to first gain a report with existing customers and to earn their continued business beforehand.
A sleek and attractive menu was created to introduce these changes when the time came. We also took this chance to introduce 4 new menu items that were previously unavailable, while keeping all the basic services some customers had grown accustomed to.
In terms of social media, there was none before us. We started all new Facebook and Instagram accounts and post regularly. John is a graphic designer, so he created a website from the ground up and created all the photos and graphics to highlight our menu, services, portfolio, products and promotions. www.miraclenailsalon.net
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
While not directly related to the business or work we do, we understand the importance of optics and presence. Not only in store, but also on the internet/social media. We believe a good impression online can increase potential business and invoke trust, show professionalism and spark interest.
John has always been a creative. He attended UGA in pursuit of a degree in Art. He was a musician, singer/songwriter, producer and sound engineer. He spent some time in the film industry, working both on camera and behind the scenes. He’s even directed an award winning short film!
He’s created countless graphics for logos, album covers and advertising. He created the YouTube Channel “Frugal Users” (previously ATL Resell Guy) It’s here that the full scope of his talents are on display, working as the writer, on screen talent, graphic designer and editor.
In relation to Miracle Nail Salon, these abilities come to a head with the creation of the menu, website and social media posts. Experience with camera, design and a background/education in Art allow him to create everything needed to represent the business online in a positive, professional and attractive way.
As for Trish, art and creativity or two cornerstones of the industry. She’s an accomplished nail tech with thousands of services to her credit. She works with customer’s to create a look and style they love! Her technique has earned her many loyal customers and die hard fans who have followed her throughout her career in the industry. She has a deep knowledge of the business and it’s processes. With her experience and John’s savvy, they are poised to do great things!
Networking and finding a mentor can have such a positive impact on one’s life and career. Any advice?
We didn’t seek much mentoring, given Trish’s experience in the field. Some family members encouraged us to go for it when we were considering buying the business. We haven’t yet branched out into networking, but likely will soon as well settle in and see a full year of operations. Once we know what we can expect and when it occurs, we may take addition measures to promote and seek growth.
