Meet John Gore

Today we’d like to introduce you to John Gore.

Every artist has a unique story. Can you briefly walk us through yours?
I started photography when I was on the yearbook staff in high school. I managed several pages from copy to photography. I really did not think much of it until classmates and teachers really loved my photos. So I started doing more photos outside of the yearbook. They were all black and white because I could not afford the color film. After high school, I took a break because of college.

For years I focused on my IT career. I have been in IT for 23 years working on a helpdesk to now a Regional Telephony Manager.

I did not pick up photography back up until 2010. I started to take photos on my iPhone and posting them on Facebook. Once again all my FB friends loved my photos. I guess I have both a technical and an artistic side of me. Having the support of people for your work really makes things worthwhile.

Now I do lots of photography, weddings, modeling, lifestyle, real estate, interior design, etc… I love it and wish I can do it full time.

Please tell us about your art.
I create abstract and artistic photography using nature, people and other objects. I use Lightroom to create dramatic photos using a lot of contrast and filters. Also, I sometimes take a photo and in special applications turn a regular photo into abstract artistic photographs that look like paintings.

When they see my photographs I want them to see another perspective beyond the regular photo. I want to invoke a feeling they are in another world that makes them happy or sad.

It gives feeling and depth. Not just any old photograph. My photos invoke meaning, especially the people photographs. I have my models take themselves in a time they are happy, sad, angry etc… I then photograph that expressive moment and nail it every time.

Given everything that is going on in the world today, do you think the role of artists has changed? How do local, national or international events and issues affect your art?
Yes, I feel it is who you know to get noticed. The best artists are out there, but no one knows them because I feel art critics don’t branch out of the box.

Ironically, events do not affect my body of work. I get my inspiration from traveling difference cities, looking at people and concentrating on their uniqueness so I can get it out of them through photography. I consider what’s going on in society as noise and try to deflect it in my photography.

How or where can people see your work? How can people support your work?
They can see my work on my IG, website and Facebook pages. I want people to follow me on my social media pages, and contact me.

Also, I scout people who I think would be an interesting subject to photograph.

I would like to show my work in an art gallery one day. I don’t think I have been discovered from them yet. But it will come someday.
