Today we’d like to introduce you to Jonathan Loudermilk.
One Eighty Sports Performance was launched in July 2015 as an opportunity for athletes in our local community (Hoschton, Braselton, Jefferson, Flowery Branch, and Buford) to train and prepare for high-level performance in their various sports. Our founder, Coach Jonathan Loudermilk, has an extensive background in sports training, coaching, hosting and promoting various sports-related events and activities. “Coach Milk“, as his athletes call him, has been in the sports world for 11 years, coaching, training and mentoring athletes from all sports and ability levels.
Coach Milk started his career in 2008, as a High School Strength and Football Coach in Hoover, Alabama, before moving to Cincinnati, Ohio in 2012 to become a High School Strength Coach and Athletic Director. Upon his return to Gwinnett in July 2013, he began coaching football and lacrosse at the high school level, prior to moving into the private sector, founding his full-service Sports Performance company. Along the way, Coach has been employed both privately and publicly with various college and professional teams to assist in their performance development and athletic improvement.
From July 2015 until October 2015, One Eighty Sports Performance was exclusively mobile and traveled from park to park and various locations training athletes with speed, agility, and sports performance training techniques. In October 2015, One Eighty opened their doors within Pro Cheer in Hoschton and began their indoor training utilizing both speed, agility and weight training. Throughout that winter and into the Spring of 2016, 180 went from training 15-20 athletes to having nearly 100 clients. At this point, Coach Milk realized it was time to find a permanent home and build his own facility. In June 2016, 180 Sports Performance moved into a 6000 square foot indoor facility that has allowed Coach Milk and his staff to take their athletic training offerings to the next level. This facility included a half-court basketball court, 1500 square feet of turf and a 750 square foot weight room.
Once Coach Milk had his own facility, he began to expand his training programs to include adult fitness, skills-based training in various sports, speed/agility, weight training and began offering his facility as a home for sports-related birthday parties and team banquets. In November of 2016, we Coach Milk joined forces with the Georgia Swarm Professional Lacrosse team and became the “Official Training Facility of the Georgia Swarm.” Loudermilk says, “This relationship has been an amazing partnership in which we have become the largest lacrosse training facility in Georgia. Now, three years later, we are continuing to work with the Swarm and are heading into the National Lacrosse League Playoffs in the coming weeks.“
“In February 2019, we were blessed to have the opportunity to expand our facility from 6000 to 9000 square feet and make some incredible additions. Our newly renovated facility is equipped to host NFL Combine Training, large group and team training, as well as a new 2200 square foot weight room. Today, we are the largest training facility in Northeast Georgia and have a full staff of coaches and trainers to assist with your sports and fitness goals.“
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
“One of the initial struggles was finding a consistent location to train. We were very fortunate that during our first summer, we had access to a local private baseball field with full access to run and train daily. However, as daylight savings and the weather turned colder, we were again searching for a location that was better suited to ride out the winter months and continue growing our company. In October 2015, we moved indoors to Pro Cheer and determined that the Hoschton area was where we wanted to call home.
Along the way, we have had some bumps in the road, as any company would while adapting to growing trends in sports, seasonal obstacles, a recent large-scale renovation and new build out. All considered, each “obstacle” was a tremendous opportunity to learn and grow.“
We’d love to hear more about your business.
The name “One Eighty“ was conceived because of its definition. “One Eighty” is easily summarized as “a complete reversal in attitude, decision or plan.” We looked at this definition and felt it was the perfect fit for our clients who often stated they had goals, changes and wanted to look/perform differently than their peers. As the President/CEO, I wanted to embody those attributes and create a company that was significantly different than any other before or after us.
We specialize in the type of Sports Performance training that is typically known as speed/agility. However, we always attempt to educate parents, clients and athletes alike that we are not a “hoops and hurdles” gym whereyou just run around and have no purpose. All our programs are designed to create explosive athletes, with an emphasis placed on proper techniques both lifting and running. We believe that resistance training and movement specific work is the key to transferring from training to on-field application.
We are most known for the variety of athletes that we train and the high level of improvement they experience in each sport. We do not cater to any one sport or type of athlete as most gyms are known as “Football Factories” and tend to shy away from any other sport or athlete. Our facility has a large population of female athletes, as well as a huge lacrosse following. We are often associated most with lacrosse due to our relationship with the Georgia Swarm. We have been very blessed over the past years to have worked with Young Harris College Men’s Lacrosse, Mill Creek High School Lacrosse, and various Gwinnett Lacrosse League Youth organizations. We have also become known for our Combine Prep Training. We have hosted dozens of combines over the years and sent dozens of athletes through our Combine Prep Program. Those athletes have gone out and outperformed their peers in nearly every event. This Combine season we have had multiple athletes attend Nike, Adidas, Recruit Georgia and even the US Army All American Combine and perform or score the highest in various events.
As a company, we are most proud of our track record of results, but also our high client retention rate. The retention rate is important to us, as we are not looking for a one-month relationship/commitment with an athlete, but rather a long-term opportunity to make an impact in the lives of our athletes and adults alike. We often tell our athletes’ parents that we do not want to be here just for a few months or for one athletic season, but that we would rather be in our athletes’ lives for years.
Fitness and sports are both great activities that can take you into a variety of opportunities in life but establishing lifestyle habits of being healthy and taking care of your body is a key component of a succesful life.
Our Coaching staff or “Dream Team” as I often refer to them, sets us apart from other gyms or training facilities. I have worked for four years to find the best of the best in each sport and field of fitness. We are blessed to have an amazing staff that can assist in all sports and fitness levels. We have coaches in the following sports skills: baseball, softball, lacrosse, football, volleyball, soccer, basketball and wrestling. This allows us, in combination with our performance and weight training, to develop the total athlete. In terms of adult fitness, we have two trainers on staff that are experts at tailoring programs to meet your physical needs while also keeping in mind pre-existing conditions and fitness levels.
What were you like growing up?
Growing up, I was raised on a farm and learned very early on that working hard was not an option but a standard and expectation. My parents are both hard-working individuals in their respective professions. I learned a great deal from my mom, personality wise, as she is very involved in sales and various business endeavors. My Dad was always the one pushing me to work hard and be my best, while showing that anything worth doing was worth doing right. My love for sports, mixed with an entrepreneurial spirit, led me to success on the field/court/diamond and typically meant that I won any fundraiser I participated in. I played multiple sports as a child, but once I reached High School, I honed my focus towards football and weight lifting.
