Today we’d like to introduce you to Jonathan Mukunta.
Jonathan started learning the art of furniture design, craftsmanship, and restoration at an early age. Working as an apprentice under the skillful eye of his father in Zambia. Jonathan developed a strong passion for the craft. He went on to study at the Pretoria Institute of Upholstery and Art Design in South Africa where he received a degree in Practical Furniture Design, Custom Furniture, and Furniture Design. In 2001 Jonathan migrated from Africa to the United States. Continuing his education in America, in 2002 he received a certification in Interiors Designer and Decorations, Furniture Design Manufacturing, and Decoration Fabrications from Ashworth College.
In 2010, Jonathan founded Atlanta Home Furniture Repair and Dunwoody Upholstery.
Fast forward to 2017, Jonathan’s determination is finally paying off. By focusing on solutions, creating a target market and continuing to master his craft, Jonathan found the business support staff and perseverance needed to make Dunwoody Upholstery a success. In 2015 and 2016 Dunwoody Upholstery was awarded best Upholstery Company in Atlanta by Thumbtack.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
New to the metro Atlanta area, Jonathan found navigating the business landscape and becoming a new business owner quite challenging. From finding the right office staff, marketing team and skilled tradesman to generating business capital to fund business operations, becoming an owner/operator required patience, poise, discipline and faith.
