Meet Jonathan Oliver of Fly Jon in Riverdale

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jonathan Oliver.

Jonathan, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I was born in Albany, Georgia. My father and I relocated to the southern outskirts of Atlanta when I was around the age of 6.

Has it been a smooth road?
It has definitely been a rough road. During my childhood, I faced a lot of challenges. I know for a fact that plenty of my peers wouldn’t have been able to survive some of the things I’ve experienced. I’ve been homeless many times and both my parents were alcoholics.

A lot of the things I got into was due to my parents not being around to stop me. I always knew right from wrong, but for some reason, the “wrong” things to do always seemed tempting. I learned plenty of life lessons running around as a child. Consequences I faced behind some of my actions helped mold me into the person I am today.

We’d love to hear more about what you do.
I am a lyrical recording artist. Most people probably know me as the “Photoshoot man” or the kid always in front of the camera. It took some time to get it across to people that I was a rapper. Some people thought I was a model due to me always taking pics lol 😂.

I would have to say I’m most proud of my ambition and drive to reach my goals. Growing and learning every day, I’m at a place in my life where I find joy in every situation. I’ve broken a lot of records for myself this year, and I plan on continuing that trend.

Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
Well, I’m from Riverdale, being so close to Atlanta, shares a lot of the same characteristics. The best thing about it to me is the “brotherhood like” support. Everyone supports and promote things like it’s their own. I love that! There really isn’t anything I dislike, to be honest.
