Today we’d like to introduce you to Jordan Berube.
So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I’ve had a camera in my hand for as long as I can remember and I had always had quite a vivid imagination for what I would film. But internally, nothing had sparked the realization that I was good at it, I thought it was something fun to pass the time. That changed when I took an Audio/Visual class in my first year of high school, at the end of the school year, I had finally realized that not only did I enjoy filmmaking, but that I was quite good at it. For the rest of my high school career, I would continue to strengthen my skills to the point where Jamie Trask (the class teacher) considered me the best and most committed student he had ever had. What I think makes my work so unique is how I implement aspects of my life experiences through my visual style and music choice. A majority of my childhood is a chaotic blur of bullying and hatred that was directed toward me, leaving me with essentially nobody to talk about my problems, I ended up coping through creating emotional imagery in drawings and photos and currently short films.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
My journey to where I am today was an extensive struggle through external and internal problems. I have many issues with anxiety/depression and I struggle with talking to new people and expressing my thoughts verbally due to my past. And I have had many people doubt my life decisions going into the film industry.
What do you do, what do you specialize in, what are you known for, etc. What are you most proud of? What sets you apart from others?
I specialize in cinematography, photography, editing, writing, and directing. I have a way with people that makes working with me a fun and exciting experience. When it comes to my craft, I am an absolute perfectionist yet I do not get into peoples face about it because I am fair. I slowly work things out with who I work with as my general workflow is quite unconventional. I dont like fully writing out scripts/screenplays as I enjoy improvising wherever I can.
If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
I probably would take things more slowly and beleive in myself more.
