Today we’d like to introduce you to Jordan Brown.
Hi Jordan, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I have been a literature lover and writer my whole life. I earned my Bachelor’s in English Literature from Morehouse College in 2010 and went into education. In 2018, I read Julia Cameron’s “The Artist’s Way”, and it caused a creative unblocking within me. All that I had studied and seen my whole life came pouring out of me like a wave through my art. I decided then, this is what I want to do with my life – use my talents to make art that can change the world.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Its been smooth for me because of my sheer passion and drive to become great. I am self-taught, I have no formal art education so all of the resources, classes, teachers, supplies, mentors, etc, I’ve had to find myself. That’s kind of helped in my discovery though, allowing me to be more independent and develop my own voice quicker.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am a writer, photographer, and visual artist that uses multiple disciplines to make art largely focused but not limited to the black experience. I focus on black beauty and the black family, two things I love the most. I am a drawing artist specializing in drafting, and what makes me different than other artists is I draw with anything – pen, charcoal, oil pastel, pencil, marker, crayon, anything you can use to draw, I want to try! I’m known for creating stunning images that reflect black excellence, beauty, and royalty.
What’s next?
My plans for the future are to continue to be an active contributor in the scorching ATL art scene and to cultivate the next generation of artists with big voices, myself included. I’m working on securing national distribution for my “Dismantle” brand. dismnaltemerch.com. Lastly, I want to make a big splash with my digital art and capitalize on the NFT craze.
